Chronic rhinitis: symptoms and treatment

Very often, such a problem as a protracted runny nose, can go to chronic rhinitis, which causes a lot of discomfort, and also leads to serious complications. Before starting treatment, it is necessary to know that the causes of the disease can be different. So, for a start, it is worth knowing that this disease is a constant inflammation of the nasal mucosa, which can proceed in different ways.

The catarrhal form of the disease usually arises from frequent ARVI and acute rhinitis. Symptoms may include the following: permanent nasal congestion (may be alternating), mucopurulent discharge, shortness of breath. The reasons for the development of catarrhal chronic rhinitis are as follows: prolonged exposure to mucous dust, harmful substances, tobacco smoke, gases. In addition, this disease often accompanies genyantritis, tonsillitis, pharyngitis, adenoids, etc. Treatment, most often consists of the use of local antibiotics, which should prescribe ENT doctor, mucolytics. It is also recommended to wash the nose with saline (or special agents, which are based on sea water, for example, "Aquamaris", "Akvalor", etc.). The specialist can advise the use of anti-inflammatory drugs. In any case, competent treatment can be prescribed only by an ENT doctor after an individual examination.

Allergic chronic rhinitis may occur due to ingestion of the allergen on the mucosa of the nasal cavity. It can manifest itself in a certain season (for example, if the disease is associated with the flowering of plants) or all year round. This form of rhinitis often accompanies such manifestations of allergic reactions as conjunctivitis, urticaria, etc. Complications of this disease can be the formation of polyps, and in severe cases, hypertrophy of the inferior nasal concha. Among the symptoms that are present here, it should be noted the itching in the nasal cavity, reddening of the skin in certain places, sneezing, clear discharge.

Before treating chronic rhinitis of this origin, you should consult not only with an ENT specialist, but also with an allergist. Most often, in this case, prescribe antihistamines (most popular among them, "Suprastin", etc.). You may also need the use of drugs from the group of corticosteroids (nasal).

It should be noted and vasomotor rhinitis, which has the following symptoms: the appearance of nasal congestion, if a person takes a horizontal position. Most often, this ailment develops in patients with certain endocrine diseases, or with asthenovegetative syndrome. It is difficult to treat chronic rhinitis of the vasomotor form, and there are several traditional methods that depend on the revealed cause of the pathology. It is noticed that in this case physioprocedures of high results do not give. A much greater effect can be brought by surgical intervention and the introduction of corticosteroids that have a prolonged effect.

Against the background of taking a large number of medicines, medicamentous rhinitis can develop. Most often, it occurs with the abuse of funds that reduce blood pressure, tranquilizers and neuroleptics. Treatment of the disease primarily comes down to the abolition of drugs that cause it, and to the selection of alternative therapies. If this is not possible, surgery can not be ruled out, the meaning of which will be the destruction of the submucous vessels of the nasal concha, which will not allow the latter to grow.

If an ENT specialist is diagnosed with "chronic rhinitis," treatment with folk remedies is possible, however, it is first necessary to talk about this with the doctor so as not to create much greater health problems.
