Catching smelt - all the secrets about the fish smelling of fresh cucumbers

People who have not been to the Baltics, this fish, probably know little. For this small, very cute variety is characterized by an unusually strong smell of fresh cucumbers. But during cooking it almost completely disappears.

For a long time catching a smelt for fishing rod to many angler anglers did not seem tempting, therefore they treated it rather disdainfully, but times change.

Not everyone knows that, despite the small size of the fish, its length is not more than 20 cm, it's best to catch the smelt on hooks No. 8. Bait - meat or beljudugi. The last version of the bait is more popular, as the fish of this variety often gets hooked. Beldyady meat - dense, wiry, does not soak in the water, firmly holds on to the hook. Smelt very quickly bites on this bait.

The meat should be planted so that the sharp edge of the hook is stinging, left open. Only in this case the cutting will be effective. A piece of bait should not be more than 4 mm. Catching smelt is not as simple as it might seem.

It is necessary to cut at the moment of pecking. Smelt - the fish are energetic and biting it is very strong and fast, so it's important to be alert and prysech at the moment when the fish pulls the hook down and on yourself. The difficulty in catching smelt is that it lives at a great depth - up to 20 meters. This means that it will take a long time to raise a long line. And this is not in the interests of the fisherman. Therefore, it is necessary to adapt and pull the fish quickly, but smoothly, avoiding sudden movements taking into account the direction of the wind and directing the line to the wind.

Catching a smelt requires a good reaction, because when fishing it behaves briskly, until the very last moment the fish tries to break free from the hook. It is mobile, active, and the angler should act carefully, quickly and carefully. Fishermen distinguish smelt in color. It happens with a grayish and black back. In black stamens, the color is almost black, and on the sides a bright, shiny silver-violet strip, this pattern disappears from the asleep fish. The best is considered to be a black stump, reaching a large size. To catch in one day 20 - 40 fish is not easy. Even experienced anglers catch no more than ten smelt. Special knowledge and skills require catching smelt in the winter.

The fisherman must have special gear for catching smelt. The best tackle, the following: a short rod with a heavy handle. If there is a coil, then it's good.

It is better to choose a line to 0.25 mm with a lead of 0.15 mm. The sinker should be about 25 grams. Such a weighty load allows you to quickly lower the tackle to the bottom and provides a minimum flow drift. It does not interfere with the sweep during biting, as it makes you feel whether the fish has hooked on the hook or not. With a heavy sinker, this feeling is lost.

Just above the sinker (approximately 15 cm), the first leash is about 3 cm long. A pair of leashes of the same length is attached every 30 cm. Now the fishing rod is equipped with three hooks. You can increase the number of hooks to four or cut to two. But experience shows that three hooks are the norm. On one hook with lethargic biting, you can attach a spoon-bait, the smelt often bites on it. But the tackle can get confused when you dare.

If the biting is strong, then the spoon bobs almost always interfere. It is possible to equip a fishing pole with a float for catching smelt, or you can replace it with a simple nod, made of nipple rubber. The number of fishing rods is also an interesting question. Taking a smelt with four fishing rods is the best option. Put more - five or six, not worth it. Holes to do for catching smelt should be at a distance of two meters. It is difficult to observe a large number of holes. You can miss the moment of biting and not react, it is fraught with loss of prey. Since the smelt is an active fish, then, for its fishing, the main thing is to cut it in time. Have a good fishing.
