Cableways of the world: a brief introduction

Cableways ... Of course, almost every modern man had to hear at least once in his life about such a rather rare form of transport. Why ropeways are in demand? Is it only because of its unusual? According to experts, first of all this is due to the fact that they solve the main task, delivering passengers to the destination where other vehicles are completely useless. And all this is happening for quite a short time without polluting the environment and creating traffic jams.

Section 1. Cableways of the world: general information

Theoretically, their device is quite simple. By means of a certain mechanism, it is possible to move in space, using a traction or non-traction cable or a cable that is pulled between the supports. During the work of the cable car, the trolleys, wagons, cabins or chairs can move above the ground.

By the way, few people realize that modern cableways are quite functional. They can carry up to 2 thousand people per hour. And cargo cableways provide cargo transportation up to 1 thousand tons per hour.

The longest in the world (96 km) is the cable car, the construction of which was once carried out in Sweden. Originally it functioned only as a cargo, and it was built specifically to make it easier for the local population to move the extracted iron ore to the shore of the Gulf of Bothnia from Lapland. Now its part (just over 13 km) is used to transport numerous tourists and local people.

The second longest cable car today operates in Gabon (its length is 76 km). Through it, the delivery of manganese ore is carried out. This is a very impressive engineering structure:

  • The length of its wire rope is 155 km;
  • More than 850 towers;
  • 2800 buckets;
  • The work of the cable is carried out with the help of 6,000 guide rollers.

And in third place there was a cable car in Armenia, commissioned in 2010 by the order of the government of the country - Tatevskaya (length - 5.7 km).

Modern travelers note the presence of this type of transport in Nizhny Novgorod (Russia), New York (USA), Portland (USA), London (Kingdom of Great Britain) and Hong Kong (China). They are specially built for the transportation of passengers and improving the transport interchange of the world's largest administrative centers.

Section 2. Popular ropeways of Ukraine

This state can easily be attributed to the category of record holders by the number of designs of such a plan. In total there are 12 of them, and most of them are considered passenger ones.

Perhaps, one of the most popular one can be considered one of the Crimean. Yalta ... The cable car located here, of course, is known to every traveler who has visited the peninsula. Construction began in 1967. But only 20 years later, all the work was finally completed, and the members of the admissions committee were lucky enough to become its first passengers.

The construction of this road is unique - this is the longest unsecured area of this kind in Europe. The angle of ascent is 46 °.

At the central station passengers pass ticket control and are transferred to top-level trains, which will allow them to be at an altitude of 1153 m. It should be noted that such a trip is worth it to give him some time and spend the requested amount of money. A beautiful panoramic view opens up from above: a stretch of the Crimea from Gurzuf to Foros is seen from here as if in the palm of your hand.

Section 3. Famous ropeways in Russia

The Russian Federation, thanks to the characteristic features of its terrain and the vastness of the occupied territory, can boast about 40 roads of this kind.

Sometimes, by the way, the cable car (Gelendzhik - indisputable to this confirmation) is transformed from a vehicle into an entertainment attraction. Why? Just imagine, from the observation deck (600 m above sea level) you can see a beautiful view of the endless sea and majestic mountain peaks. However, in cloudy and inclement weather, it is better to keep from such a trip. Impressions still will not be so bright, and gusts of wind can even scare.

To date, the length of the road in Gelendzhik is one thousand meters. It takes about 15 minutes to get there. By the way, buying a ticket, you can not only use the most cable car, but also, having risen, take a walk in the park and ride the Ferris wheel.
