Cabernet Sauvignon - gourmet wine

Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the most famous wines in the world. Its name was obtained from the corresponding grape variety. Actually, thanks to him, it has become so widespread throughout the world. Red cabernet sauvignon (Cabernet Sauvignon) steadily occupies a leading position in sales and consumption.

Grapes

The hybrid is called the king of grapes. It belongs to the wine varieties and is the representative of the ecological and geographical group of Western European varieties. It is used for the production of red wines. None of the wine industry has bypassed it with their attention.

The Cabernet Sauvignon grape variety is the result of crossing the white Sauvignon Blanc and the red Cabernet Franc (this was established in 1996 by American scientists). They also suggested that the cultivation of the variety was carried out in the seventeenth century on French vineyards in Bordeaux.

According to the reviews of wine growers, the variety has a set of unique properties:

  • Uncomplicated, perfectly adaptable in any climatic conditions. Does not require complex cultivation.
  • Resistant to diseases. Virtually unaffected by gray rot and mildew. Withstands the raids of such pests as phylloxera and grozdevaya leaf rollers.
  • It is frost-resistant. Well tolerates drought. Yields do not decrease - they decrease in the amount of berries.
  • Grown in different conditions retains its uniqueness. The aroma and taste of the variety is recognizable, despite the striking differences in climatic conditions and soil composition.
  • Late ripening (berries ripen quite slowly). This gives winemakers a great choice in terms of harvesting. Although incomplete ripening is possible in a cold climate.
  • Geography of cultivation - from Argentina to Canada. Cabernet Sauvignon is cultivated in Spain, the USA, Australia, France, Chile, South Africa, New Zealand.
  • Berries are small with large grains and thick skin. According to the professionals, they impart tartness to wine and a deep, rich color.

Usefull

Infinite arguments about the dangers and benefits of wine consumption led scientists to tackle this issue. At Columbia University, numerous studies have shown that:

  • Wine can slow the growth of dangerous bacteria in the human digestive system;
  • The drink can be used as a preventative against caries;
  • The combination of such acids as citric, acetic, lactic, malic, and amber in wine allows the use of hot mulled wine during a cold or sore throat;
  • Wine suppresses bacteria of cholera and tuberculosis;
  • Beneficially affects the heart muscle due to the natural component of resveratrol (slows down its aging);
  • High content of melatonin allows the use of the drink as a sleeping pill;
  • Antitumor and antioxidant properties of wine significantly reduce the risk of prostate cancer;
  • The drink removes salt from the body;
  • Helps to cope with anemia.

Due to some features of the influence of wine on the human body, it is not recommended to use it until the end of the day. Even with a slight sensation of intoxication, one should not go to sleep.

Despite all of the above positive properties of red wine, the abuse of alcohol can lead to irreversible consequences and complete degradation of the individual.

Aroma

The tasters note that the main flavors of this sort of wine are fruit: black currants, ripe cherries and blackberries. The shades depend on the manufacturer and the specific place of vine cultivation. Changing fragrance and long-term aging.

Classical varieties of wine can boast rich fruit aromas with obvious sharp notes of pepper - from green Bulgarian to black.

European wines are distinguished by grassy-floral shades. According to professionals, they can hear graphite, tobacco, violet, liquorice.

But the American continent - say tasters - fills the product with the aromas of cherries, black pepper and liquorice, emphasizing their barely perceptible smell of vanilla.

Colour

The young wine Cabernet Sauvignon is dark red. Has a pronounced purple hue. But with the years the color changes. After several years of aging the drink acquires a deep ruby or pomegranate color.

Culture of drinking

Gourmets assure that Cabernet Sauvignon is perfectly combined with meat and fatty dishes. It can be used with a hamburger, beef steak or mushroom pizza. To the classics can be attributed a combination of wine with braised ribs. Beef stroganoff under the mushroom sauce will emphasize the berry notes of this type of alcohol.

Experts do not recommend combining Cabernet Sauvignon with chocolate. A powerful taste of sweets will simply "crush" the fruit shade.

Cabernet Sauvignon wine (this is confirmed by the reviews) is not too intoxicating when used moderately. It fills the body with energy. It was not for nothing that the Knights Templars and the Druids loved him so much.

It's curious

Cabernet Sauvignon is so widespread all over the world that its plantations occupy almost 270 thousand hectares:

  • France - 50 000 hectares;
  • Chile - 40 500 ha;
  • The USA - 40 000 hectares;
  • Australia - 26 000 hectares;
  • South Africa - 16,500 hectares;
  • Argentina - 6500 hectares.

Under US law, Cabernet Sauvignon may not contain more than 75% of the same grape variety. This allows you to improve the fragrance of the product and increase its value.

The high price of a bottle of wine directly depends on the value of the grapes. From one ton of raw materials you can cook up to 750 bottles of the drink. For comparison: the price per ton of Cabernet Sauvignon can reach $ 6000, and for Merlot (with equal growing conditions) - $ 1300.

On the last Thursday of August, the whole world celebrate the Day of Cabernet Sauvignon. Mass wine tasting takes place in all major cities of wine-growing regions. The holiday is very young, it is celebrated only since 2010.

The unusual aroma of green bell pepper provides a microscopic content in the wine of the organic compound pyrazine.

This variety is one of the most prolific. From an area of 0.5 hectares you can collect up to 3.5 tons of berries.

The endurance of grapes is indicated by the fact that it is grown in the Gobi Desert (the Chinese part of it).
