The name itself comes from the name of the area - Bamian, which is exactly the ancient name of the geographical location of present-day Afghanistan. Even at the time of the invasion of the Tatar-Mongol yoke, the shrine was very badly damaged, but nevertheless still retained all its majesty and recognizable features, but it did not survive the subsequent shock.
