Mechanism of action of the drug
"Levomekol" ointment refers to dehydrating and antimicrobial drugs for external use. It is a substance of a yellowish hue in tubes or bottles of darkened glass. Its cost is quite affordable - about 50 rubles.
The active ingredients of the ointment are two main components:
- Dioxomethyltetrahydropyrimidine or methyluracil (7.5 mg / g), which stimulates the regeneration of tissues;
- Chloramphenicol (40 mg / g), an antibiotic active against Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms, such as Staphylococcus, E. coli and Pseudomonas aeroginosa.
Chloramphenicol has an important feature: it penetrates deep into the tissue, but the integrity of the cell membrane is not disturbed. On the contrary, the substance has a stimulating effect on the regenerative processes. The presence of pus and necrotic formations does not reduce the effectiveness of the antiseptic.
In what cases is the ointment used?
"Levomekol" is used in the treatment of purulent wounds in the stage of inflammation. The ointment is indicated in the presence of decubitus, boils, hemorrhoids of a neglected degree, calluses, herpetic ulcers, inflammation of the ear canal, acne, lymphadenitis. "Levomekol" has proved itself well in the following medical fields:
- In ENT-practice for the treatment of the common cold and sinusitis when confirming the presence of pathogenic bacterial flora;
- In stomatology ointment is used for stomatitis, parodontosis, trophic ulcers and other inflammatory processes that arise when teeth are removed and implantation;
- In gynecological and urological practice "Levomekol" is appointed in the postnatal and postoperative period, with colpitis, balanitis and balanoposthitis.
"Levomekol" ointment is used in several ways:

Features of the drug
When treating "Levomecol", the use of pyrazolone derivatives, sulfonamides and cytostatics should be avoided.
Use this drug for more than 5-7 consecutive days is not recommended due to the occurrence of sensitization or hypersensitivity to the skin. This is due to the action of methyluracil and chloramphenicol, which are included in Levomecol (ointment). Analogues not containing these active substances will be a valid alternative to this drug.
Who is contraindicated with Levomekol?
Contraindications to the use of ointment are the presence of hypersensitivity to chloramphenicol or methyluracil, psoriasis, children under 3 years of age, fungal skin lesions (including thrush) and eczema. In the presence of these conditions, the patient can not use Levomekol. Analogues of the drug will be an alternative, but the choice of a suitable remedy should only be done by a doctor. In pregnancy and lactation, this drug is used with great caution in the presence of serious indications.
Can there be side effects?

The composition of this preparation is unique, since it includes the extraction of the queen cells of the Bulgarian Pomorie salt lakes, which are rich in macro- and microelements, natural acids and alkalis, and also colloids.
"Linen Aloe"
This analogue of "Levomechol" has an absolutely natural composition: aloe juice, eucalyptus and castor oil. The drug has adaptogenic, regenerating, restorative, analgesic, anti-inflammatory and bactericidal effects.
Aekol
This analogue of "Levomecol" is produced in Russia and Ukraine. "Aekol" is an oily liquid containing acetate, menadione, beta-carotene, retinol and sunflower oil in the alpha-tocopherol compound. This remedy, thanks to the vitamin composition, has an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, hemostatic effect, normalizes the permeability of capillaries and tissues.
"Methyluracil"
This analogue of "Levomecol" is available in the form of ointments, suppositories and tablets. The main active substance is methyluracil or dioxymethyltetrahydropyrimidine, which is a stimulator of tissue regeneration. Candles are used for colitis, proctitis, hemorrhoids, anal fissures, sigmoiditis, erosions of the cervix, vulvitis of a nonspecific character, colpitis. Ointment "Metiluratsil" is widely used to treat various wounds, abrasions, burns, cracks and scars. Local application of the drug is inadmissible with excessive granulation.
Kontraktubeks
This analogue of "Levomecol" is available in the form of an ointment, the active ingredients of which are onion extract, heparin and allantoin. "Kontraktubeks" has antiproliferative, softening, smoothing and anti-inflammatory effect. Ointment is indicated for cicatricial hypertrophic and atrophic growths, keloid changes in the dermal cover, stretch marks, scars on the skin after acne, boils, burns and for the prevention of pathologies in postoperative or post-traumatic sutures.
