"Back to the Future", "Who Framed Roger Rabbit", "Forrest Gump" and other films. Robert Zemeckis - innovator of cinema

For several decades, with an enviable consistency in the media, the name of Robert Zemeckis sounds. A talented director and screenwriter, once taking the highest bar, has been maintaining the status of a master for many years in a row.

Childhood and love of television

Robert Zemeckis, one of the most successful filmmakers, producers and screenwriters, was born in 1952 in a family that belonged to the working class and had Baltic and Italian roots. Robert's parents were people rather mundane and reserved in terms of ambition, so they brought up their son.

But from his earliest childhood, Robert succumbed to the influence of television. He was literally fascinated by this attribute of modernity and to this day, contrary to the popular opinion about the harmfulness of television, claims that it was the key factor in the formation of his creative consciousness.

This is not surprising, because the parents put Robert in a cage out of their stereotypes, patterns, restrictions that seemed insurmountable to them, and, sadly, quite suitable for life. But the boy, who dreamed of cinema and television, did not like it. Therefore, from a small age, he began to cherish in his heart the dream of creating a real movie. In the meantime, taking advantage of a small unpretentious camera, together with friends, he began to shoot children's comic videos, which became his first experience on the road to great filmmaking.

Training and first victories

Contrary to the opinion of the parents, after school Robert Zemekis entered the university and was educated in the specialty of "cinematographic art". There he met his future creative partner, ideological mastermind and just a friend - Bob Gale. They shared the love of popular American cinema and repelled the intellectual efforts of classmates who were keen on finding something unusual, in effect, not imagining what good films should be.

Robert Zemeckis first announced himself in 1972 - he made a short film entitled "The Field of Honor" and received for him a student's award. The original short film attracted the attention of Steven Spielberg himself, who later gave him and his friend Bob considerable support, including producing their first full-length films.

The first loud success of Zemeckis was the film "Roman with a Stone," starring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner. He was followed by a cult picture "Back to the Future", which laid the foundation for a fantastic trilogy. Many predicted the output of the fourth part, however the sequel "Back to the Future-3" became final. A quarter of a century has passed since the trilogy was published, and its popularity is not quenched. Millions of viewers loved these films. Robert Zemeckis did not disappoint fans in the future.

Animation in the cinema - "Who Framed Roger Rabbit"

The success of every genius is connected with the invention of something new. For Zemeckis, such a bold discovery was the insertion into the movie of an animated character. It's about the famous movie "Who Framed Roger Rabbit", released in 1988. It was a truly unique experience that changed the world of cinematography. The idea and her courageous incarnation brought him three Oscars at once.

In 1988, continued cooperation with Steven Spielberg. The latter drew Zemeckis to create a series called "Amazing Stories." Noteworthy in this fantastic telenovela was that every episode had different directors, usually with a loud name. Among them were Martin Scorsese, Clint Eastwood, Peter Hayams and others. The series looked more like full-length films. Robert Zemeckis became the director of the eighth episode of the second season of the series.

Films "Forrest Gump", "Izgoy" and others - the result of a successful creative union of Tom Hanks and Robert Zemeckis

But, perhaps, the most important achievement in the cinematographic activity of Zemeckis was the film "Forrest Gump". Thanks to the commercial success, the high appreciation of the artistic value of the critics, the incredibly talented Tom Hanks, involved in the film, the film stood in line with the most striking motion pictures of Hollywood. "Forrest Gump" won a record number of awards "Oscar", and also received recognition at almost all international film festivals.

In 2000, Tom Hanks and Robert Zemeckis again returned to their creative partnership - on the screens there was a picture of "Outcast", which both critics and viewers took very favorably. Subsequently, the film was among the best in the history of Hollywood.

2004 marked a new stage in the work of Zemeckis - animation films. A Christmas fairy tale called "Polar Express" fell in love with adults and children. A magical adventure embodied in a colorful, surprisingly beautiful cartoon film, for many spectators has become an indispensable attribute of the festive atmosphere.

It is possible to describe infinitely long the pictures made by this brilliant director. Even the sequels are surprisingly good for him, according to critics (a vivid example is "Back to the Future-3", which, according to many, has surpassed the second part, contrary to the usual opinion that the continuation is always worse than the beginning). In addition, Zemeckis is a recognized leader of Hollywood in terms of innovation. It is difficult to overestimate the contribution to the formation of film culture, which his films made. Robert Zemeckis created his slightly fantastical, slightly fantastic film empire, where each picture is worthy of attention, recognition and sincere audience of love.
