Asynchronous generator

Faced with the problem of selecting a generator, you will undoubtedly encounter such a thing as an asynchronous generator. Not everyone understands its significance. If we turn to the vocabulary for interpretation, then we will find this definition: an asynchronous generator is an electric machine that operates in the generator mode. It is an auxiliary source of low-power electric current and a braking device. The rotor of the generator is driven by a drive motor. The direction of its rotation coincides with the magnetic field, but occurs at a higher rate. When the rotor slides, which has acquired a negative value, a braking torque appears on the generator shaft and the machine gives electricity to the grid. For the operation of such a generator it is required that the network has a generator of reactive power, for which the synchronous machine is suitable.

To choose a generator for the house and to provide your home with uninterrupted electricity, you need to get acquainted with its parameters. First of all, it is necessary to take into account the power of the generator and the total load on it, how many devices it will have to provide electricity. These include the most necessary appliances in everyday life: electric stove, lighting, kettle, boiler. All devices do not need to be connected to the network at the same time, the main thing is that the generator's power is sufficient without failures to ensure their operation. When choosing it is necessary to focus on the following characteristics: an asynchronous generator or synchronous, diesel or gasoline, the power of the device and the number of phases.

The power of the generator can be calculated as follows: to do this, it is necessary to divide cosφ, which each electrical appliance has, into its power indicated in its technical characteristics. You can also calculate the generator power.

Generators are of two types: single-phase and three-phase. They are meant for different purposes. If you are using a three-phase generator, then you must ensure a uniform load between the three phases. When using a single-phase generator, this problem does not arise. The gasoline generator is more convenient to use in winter time, its uninterrupted operation is equal to eight hours. Unlike it, the diesel generator has large power resources and is designed for a longer service life.

Before choosing a synchronous or asynchronous generator, it is necessary to determine what the generator's capabilities are for ensuring high-quality operation with devices that consume reactive power, and how it can withstand a high inrush current. The synchronous generator is capable of generating both active and reactive power and generates electricity more qualitatively. Such a generator can withstand starting currents, which exceed two to three times the rated currents. At the same time, its price is quite high.

Unlike synchronous, the asynchronous generator is poorly adapted to starting currents, but it is resistant to short circuits, as well as overloads. In an asynchronous generator, the output voltage is less susceptible to nonlinear distortion. It is used to power incandescent lamps, stoves, irons, radio engineering, electric heaters, computers and electronic devices. If a generator with reactive loads is to be used, then a power reserve of two to three times is required. Its cost is lower than that of a synchronous generator.

The positive characteristics of the generator include its low-level factor, which speaks of the number of higher harmonics in its output voltage. This value is two percent. Thus, an asynchronous motor generator is capable of producing only useful energy. The advantages of an asynchronous generator include the lack of parts that are sensitive to external influences, which require replacement and repair. For this reason, the generator is not very susceptible to wear and is designed for long-term operation.

If you need an asynchronous motor, in the generator mode functioning, then for this purpose a collector electric motor having a permanent magnet on the stator will do. It does not even need to make any serious alterations. When the motor shaft rotates with a frequency close to the nominal value, a constant voltage will be generated. Stepper motors are suitable as an asynchronous generator , but they will need to be rotated with a small frequency.
