Art Deco In The Interior

The art deco style (otherwise the Art Deco, or, as its fans call it, "the style of the stars") blended in itself all the best from different directions of interior design. Chic and Cubism, exotic and modern - very different, it would seem, details you can see in houses and apartments, decorated in the style of art deco.

His name - art deco, "decorative art" - a style derived from the name of the exhibition, which was held in Paris in 1925. It was called Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes, which means "International Exhibition of Contemporary Decorative and Industrial Arts". There is an opinion that the very first in the art deco style were decorated elite transatlantic liners. Art deco is not in vain nicknamed the "style of the stars", as he won great popularity in Hollywood of that time. He brought with him the new luxury that has found its response in the hearts of show business figures. Art deco is considered an architectural and interior style, more typical of the first half of the XX century, but now there are many connoisseurs of streamlined shapes, furniture from high-quality wood and elements of African and Indian exoticism.

"Parent" of art deco is the Art Nouveau style, in which elements of ethnic oriental culture are seamlessly intertwined, and therefore unimaginable geometric shapes can be found near smooth curves. At a time when art deco was just beginning to evolve, in homes decorated in this style, you could meet the most expensive materials for furniture and interior details. It was like diamonds, ivory, crocodile skin, mother of pearl and the most valuable tree species. They were joined by chrome, concrete, glass and aluminum. It looked very bold and therefore made a huge impression on people who first saw it.

"The style of the stars" carried in itself many elements inherent in the people of creativity. Often the interior in the style of art deco could resemble a room of an artist, musician or collector - so many bright, stylish and expensive things were collected in one place. Popularity was typed in geometric shapes, whimsically curved lines and innovations like ornaments in the form of piano keys.

The gradual fading of the art deco style by the second half of the 20th century was facilitated by two factors: the expansion of mass production and the Second World War. During this period, art-deco increasingly began to be called too screaming and puffy, until eventually he came to a final decline.

But for art deco this was not the end of everything. Toward the end of the 20th century, it was revived, it is believed, because of the wide dissemination of vivid graphic images. Do not forget also that the art deco style is associated with the charm of pre-war films, which also helped him to win again.

Modern art deco is somewhat different from what was fashionable in the 1920s. If you want to design your house in the Art Deco style, here are some tips:

  1. Use more contrasts. Walls in pastel colors and dark or bright furniture are considered a classic "style of stars."
  2. Upholstered furniture is also one of the main features of art deco. This includes chairs, and sofas, and pouffes, and upholstered chairs chairs. All are mostly bright, noticeable shades, for example, black, red, turquoise or purple.
  3. An important role is played by antique, antique items, exotic souvenirs, expensive furnishings and other luxuries similar to them. "Style of stars" allows a wealthy person to parade his status and financial position.
  4. You can use furniture in both classical and ethnic style. One of the interesting ideas of the art deco style is the manufacture of chairs and armchairs, the armrests of which are the continuation of the legs.
  5. When manufacturing furniture, only an array of high-quality wood is used, preferably of valuable species. It can be a pink tree, a madron, an ash or a maple.
  6. Lighting make soft and scattered throughout the room. In this way, all the accents that have been placed will be properly highlighted.
  7. Do not hesitate to put a number of large comfortable sofas and tables of glass and chrome steel. It is these contrasts in their time brought the style of art deco to the top of success.
