Application of an elastomeric yarn to improve the quality of the fabric

Artificial fabrics, natural materials, as well as synthetics without additives, have a reduced elasticity and do not stretch at all. Products from them crumple, stretch, it is almost impossible to restore their original appearance. In addition, in such clothes it is not very convenient to move. To improve the performance of fabrics, synthetic fiber - elastane is added to their composition. In Canada and the US, it is called spandex, which translates to "stretch".

From the history of origin

For the first time, a synthetic elastomeric thread appeared in the late fifties of the last century thanks to the invention of the American scientist J. Shivers, working at DuPont.

Later, the trademark "Lycra" from the company Invista, part of a well-known American corporation, was registered.

In Japan, materials from the elastomer thread are produced under the brand "Dorlastan".

Material specifications

Elastan is a practical and bright fabric, from which they sew light, comfortable clothes. She rushes for a long time and does not crumple. The main quality, thanks to which the material has gained popularity, is high extensibility. The length of elastane fibers can be increased up to 5-8 times.

In addition to elasticity, spandex has a number of important properties:

  • Elasticity - after stretching returns to its original form.
  • Durability - is not afraid of loads, does not change characteristics under the influence of water.
  • Subtlety - the thickness of elastomeric threads is minimal, so that they can be woven into any fabric.
  • Softness - the material with the addition of elastane is flexible, easily draped with soft folds.
  • Lightness - the use of the material practically does not change the overall weight of the canvas.

The elastomeric thread in the composition of synthetic and natural fabrics makes it possible to obtain breathable, elastic, comfortable and pleasant to the touch materials. Clothing made from such a fabric does not crumple, it retains its original appearance for a long time, does not wear out and does not bind the movements.

Elastane (elastomeric) filaments produce shiny, white, opaque or transparent. The base consists of oval, round or dumbbell fibers of cross section.

Application of products made of elastomeric yarns

As a rule, the elastomer is produced in the form of threads wound around the coil. Usually, cotton, linen, viscose or polyamide materials are added to it, since pure polyurethane is not used in practice. This combination increases the strength and elasticity of finished products, making their appearance more attractive. This is the reason for the use of an elastomeric thread for beadwork. At the same time, wear resistance is noted. Clothing is more comfortable for a person, does not cause irritation and dry skin.

The lack of spandex is an instability to the influence of ultraviolet and water with a high content of chlorine. In addition, threads with elastane can become a source of allergy, so when buying it is worth paying attention to the composition of the fabric.

Clothing with the addition of elastomeric fibers

It is recommended to add 5 to 15% elastane to the starting material. The most popular combination of polyurethane fibers with viscose - from the resulting combination, they make a sports uniform and clothes for everyday life. In addition, from viscose with elastane make tight dresses for cocktail parties and celebrations.

Increasing the percentage of elastomer to 20-30% provides the material with increased wear resistance. Most of sportswear, swimsuits, stockings and pantyhose are sewn from it.

For festive outfits and carnival images in the fabric besides Lycra include Lurex. Elastomer yarns (pictured below) are also used in the manufacture of jeans clothes - in addition to the cotone, about 5% of polyurethane filaments are added.

The hero of "Spider-Man" during the time of shooting has worn more than one such suit. And the film was worth it, and all thanks to these synthetic threads. They have literally turned the world of clothes for show business, sports - everywhere, where it is required to look bright and fresh.

Proper care of clothes

The rules of care for finished products depend on what is included in the fabric besides elastane. Recommendations are indicated on the label:

  1. Wash clothing in a delicate wash or manually. The water temperature should be below 40 ° C.
  2. Polyurethane yarns have the ability to burst, so when squeezing clothes, do not strongly twist it.
  3. "Aggressive" powders and bleaches quickly destroy matter, so they must be abandoned.
  4. To keep the shape, dry the products in a horizontal position.
  5. It is recommended to iron the fabric at temperatures up to 150 ° C.

Inclusion of lycra in the fabric even in a small amount allows a great change in the quality of finished products. Clothing becomes not only beautiful and comfortable, but also durable, due to the elasticity provided by the elastomeric thread. The price of elastane products directly depends on the amount of this substance in the composition of the used fabric, as well as the percentage of other additional materials: cottons, lycra, polyurethane fibers, etc.
