Many literary geniuses often used in their works such an artistic medium as the antithesis. This was a kind of expression of contradictory feelings, and a special peak occurred in the crisis era, when the habitual way of life experienced serious changes. A bright representative of this tool are "Fathers and Sons", because even in the title of the novel the antithesis is seen. The examples on this, of course, do not end, but considering that the work already in its organizing beginning has the literary device in question, it is ideal. Turgenev decided to use the antithesis not just because the plot of his novel reflects a turning-point. It was laid in the conflict of generations, and they did not necessarily live on the pages of the work.

Antithesis is a special stylistic figure that compares opposing concepts in fiction in order to reinforce the impression. We can assume that its use is rather difficult, and there is very little which author can successfully apply it. But the classics playfully coped with the antithesis, and in order to make sure of this, do not dig deep. You can see the names, such as "Crime and Punishment", or mighty "War and Peace".

However, not only in prose is used the antithesis, this artistic medium has always been popular among poets. Most often here you can meet visual images, as in the lines of Pushkin in the work "Eugene Onegin" ("Water and stone ... Ice and flame"). Less often there is a semantic opposition ("For yourself - lord and servant"). You can get acquainted with such poems, where the semantic load is built on the antithesis. For example, Lermontov has an octave in which he talks about a lonely pine located on the northern peak, and she sees a dream about a palm tree sprouting on a sandy cliff. Here there is a kind of intertwining. On the one hand - a pronounced opposition, and on the other - loneliness, not dependent on the place and climate.

Thus, the antithesis is the reception of literary artistic speech. And he will be more receptive and strong if two oppositions form the maximum contrast between themselves.

Speaking of the antithesis, it is impossible not to pay attention to the thesis. An example of it can be seen in Sadko's opera: do not consider pearls in the sea at noon ... This is an expression that must be proved, but as for our sample itself, it does not need proof, as it is obvious. And the most important thing in the thesis is that it should be clear and clear, and not be lost in the course of argumentation. Often people prove to each other that one of them should give up smoking. The argument here is usually one, and it is focused on the harm of nicotine. If you think about it, the proof is aimed directly at the fact that it is harmful to smoke, but not at all, that someone should abandon this habit.

The thesis is rarely used in the literature, it is closer to the exact sciences. And the antithesis was widely spread among the authors. But do not think that using one of these techniques is easier or more difficult. For a harmonious application of the thesis and the antithesis, a real talent is needed.
