The Kalashnikov assault rifle (AK) of the 100 series is a new generation of small arms that replaced the truly legendary AK-47 and AK-74 systems. Connoisseurs of firearms say that the AK is like a Rolls-Royce among cars, the same reliable and trouble-free. And most of the military world agree with this statement. And thanks to a low price Kalashnikov assault rifle (AK) appeared in the arsenal of many armies of our planet. In fact, this is the standard of automatic weapons, it is even an unspoken symbol of Russia along with a matryoshka, a balalaika and a bear. Well, let's see what the hundredth series differs from the previous generation.

A bit of history

In the mid-nineties of the last century, the arms designers of the Izhevsk Machine-Building Plant began developing an export version of AK for the most common ammunition in the world's armies: 5.45x39 mm (main caliber AK), 5.56x45 mm (NATO standard) and 7.62x39 mm. Based on the well-proven model AK-74M. The new modernization became known as AK 100 series automatic machines.

Description of the weapon

This modification has an impact-resistant polymer forearm. Of the same material, all the fittings are made: a pistol grip, a vent tube, a hollow folding butt with a pencil case containing accessories. The plastic has a black matte color to exclude the possibility of glare in the dark. The application is added to the left. It has a groove, when folded into it, there is a mount for mounting various sights (from optical thermal imagers to frame holography), the so-called swallowtail. Stores for AK-100 are made of special high-strength plastic. The machine is equipped with an under- barrel grenade launcher and an army bayonet knife of a standard type. All the weapons of this modification, except for AK-105, are intended for export.

AK-101

The difference of this machine from its ancestor (AK-74M) is only in the used ammunition of 5.56x45 mm caliber. This cartridge is the main standard used in small arms of the NATO bloc. Accordingly, from here follow other differences of the new automatic system. On this specimen there is a barrel with a chamber having a different step of rifling for a bullet, which, in turn, is characterized by a greater length and weight. The caliber of the barrel bore is more by 0.12 mm, the chamber is longer, since the sleeve of the new cartridge exceeds the domestic version by 6 mm in length and differs in shape. In addition, another shutter is installed on the AK-101, this is because NATO patrons have a different diameter and thickness of the core of the sleeve, and also the dimensions of the groove into which the hitch engages. The next difference is the gas removal mechanism. It had to be changed in connection with the increase in the power of the given ammunition, which led to the receipt of a bolt of the automaton with a larger pulse at the moment of the shot. Therefore, to achieve a stable battle of weapons, as well as the pace when shooting bursts, designers changed the characteristics of the gas removal system. Now the frame performs a back motion with a pulse close to AK-74M. But the accuracy of combat thanks to the new patron has become significantly higher than that of the prototype.

Performance characteristics AK-101

These automatic machines AK 100 series have a total length with a decomposed stock butt 934 mm, with folded - 705 mm. Weight AK-101 with an empty clip is 3.6 kg, and fully equipped - 4 kg. The length of the trunk is the same as for the base model - 415 mm. The initial speed of the bullet is 910 m / s. The machine is capable of providing a firing rate of 600 rounds per minute. Adjustable caster has fixed positions in height: from one to ten in increments of one, this corresponds to values from one hundred to thousands of meters. The main visual difference between AK 100 series and AK-74M is the form of the store. The bending of the clip of the new machine is much less than that of its predecessor.

AK-102

This model repeats the AK-101, but has a truncated barrel - 314 mm. Accordingly, the designers had to move the fly to the joint of the trunk and gas pipe. Next to it is a bloomer with a bell. As a result of shortening of the barrel, the overall length of the machine also decreased: with the folded butt it is 824 mm, and with the folded-up stock it is 586 mm. In addition, the weapon slightly lost weight. Now with a discharged clip it weighs 3.2 kg, which is 400 g lighter than AK-101. Shortening the barrel led to a decrease in the speed of the bullet - 820 m / s. The adjustable target has also been changed, it has been graduated from a hundred to five hundred meters. Rate of fire is the same.

AK-103

This modification of its appearance fully confirms the proverb: "Everything new is a well-forgotten old". AK-103 constructively repeats the basic prototype AK-74M, however, the cartridge was borrowed from the first-born AK-47 - 7.62x39. The considered model is the most popular export automatic device of domestic production. If you compare the AK-103 with AKMS, then the "weaving" is much better: it is more convenient, and thanks to the plastic butt, it is also much easier to prototype. Here there is a muzzle brake-compensator of a new, very successful design, thanks to which the machine shows a good accuracy of combat when firing bursts. All the characteristics of this model coincide with the AK-101, the difference is only in the caliber and weight of the cartridge, respectively, the equipped magazine is one hundred grams heavier. The higher weight of the bullet leads to a lower initial speed of flight - 715 m / s.

A little bit about the cartridge 7,62х39

These cartridges were fired by the first Kalashnikov assault rifles, as well as Simonov's carbines (SCS) of 1945, hand-guns of the RPK, rifled hunting rifles "Saiga" and many other specimens. 7,62 is an excellent ammunition for mass small arms (for war). He is an order of magnitude better than the 5.45 cartridge, which is used by all modern shooting systems. 7,62 exceeds the NATO standard - 5,56. That's why the designers IZHMASH decided to resurrect this ammunition in AK-100 (the photo above shows the submachine gun for the cartridge 7.62), and they did not lose. Orders for this model come to the plant with an enviable regularity.

AK-104

This modification is a shorter version of the previous model. It has similar specifications, including the caliber (7.62). The difference is the length of the trunk, which corresponds to the model AK-102, and the initial speed of the bullet - 670 m / s. In all other respects this is a repetition of AK-103.

AK-105

As already mentioned above, this model is intended for the domestic market of Russia, it has a shortened barrel, respectively, the gas removal mechanism repeats the version of AK-102 and AK-104. The caliber of this representative AK 100-series corresponds to the Russian standard - 5.45. These weapons are delivered in small batches to the special forces of internal affairs bodies to replace outdated AKS-74U. The dismantling of the Kalashnikov assault rifle with the hundredth series is identical to its prototype, so it is not necessary to retrain the siloviki.

In addition to the above models, IZHMASH also releases other versions of the basic versions. For example, all modifications that have the name "unit" (AK-102-1) at the end are semi-automatic, they do not have the ability to fire in turns. Such models are intended for security and police units. Modifications with the number "two" at the end of the name mean the presence of cutoffs in the machine when firing short bursts at three rounds. The fuse in these weapons has four positions: a fuse, a full automatic, a cutoff of 3 cartridges and a single mode.
