Adenomyosis and pregnancy. Are they compatible?

One of the most mysterious gynecological diseases to date is adenomyosis. Experts still do not fully understand the causes of this ailment. It is also not clear why in some women adenomyosis and pregnancy are perfectly combined, and others with the same diagnosis can not conceive a child.

This ailment is a kind of such a formidable disease as endometriosis. To date, it is believed that it is completely impossible to cure him. With this pathology, endometrial cells appear where they should not be.

They are found in the bladder, eyes, but more often in the ovaries, on the cervix of the fallopian tubes. When the endometrial cells are located in the myometrium, it is called adenomyosis.

This disease may not manifest itself in any way, and sometimes causes such suffering that it is necessary to remove the uterus. But women with this diagnosis are usually interested in whether it is possible to become pregnant with adenomyosis. Many patients with this pathology nurture and give birth to healthy babies, and in other years it can not do so.

Experts believe that the treatment of adenomyosis is necessary only in the presence of symptoms, one of which is infertility. Therefore, therapy is usually started after 2 years of unsuccessful attempts to become pregnant.

The probability of successful conception largely depends on the stage of adenomyosis and its form. Isolate 4 degrees of the disease, which depend on the prevalence of foci of endometriosis. The greatest chance of maternity in women with stage 1 adenomyosis.

It is also important whether it is combined with other gynecological diseases. Experts believe that the main cause of adenomyosis is an excess of estrogen or a shortage of progesterone.

This condition can eventually lead to hyperplasia of the endometrium, in which pregnancy is extremely problematic and even dangerous. In addition, hormonal imbalance is often the cause, and sometimes the consequence of the absence of ovulation, without which conception is also impossible.

Therefore, adenomyosis of the uterus and pregnancy should be combined with caution. It is necessary to plan for conception under the supervision of a gynecologist-endocrinologist. The doctor will assess the degree of the disease, the presence of concomitant diseases, will conduct a survey and prescribe treatment if necessary.

If there is a diagnosis of adenomyosis, and pregnancy does not come on its own within 2 years, then it is necessary to carry out treatment. Depending on the degree of the disease, it can be operative and conservative.

In therapy use hormonal, immunomodulating drugs, as well as vitamins. The doctor can also prescribe a variety of relaxation procedures, because one of the causes of adenomyosis is stress.

Among the hormonal drugs use COCs, gestagens, GnRH agonists and antigonadotropic drugs. The course of treatment lasts from 3 to 8 months. The main task of these drugs is to restrain the growth of endometrial cells in myometrium, causing their regression.

The fact is that under the influence of estrogens they grow during the cycle, and then their rejection occurs during menstruation. However, myometrium, unlike the endometrium, is not suitable for this. Therefore, hemorrhages occur, there is swelling and inflammation, the functioning of the muscle layer is disrupted.

Combining adenomyosis and pregnancy is even desirable, since those hormonal changes that occur during this period in the body lead to regression of the foci of endometriosis. However, for the bearing of the baby from the first days should be followed by a competent specialist, since with this pathology the probability of miscarriage and complications increases. The appearance of the baby in the light should also take place in a well-equipped medical institution, since problems in labor and bleeding are possible.

So, adenomyosis and pregnancy can and should be combined, but under the supervision of a qualified gynecologist-endocrinologist. Sometimes this disease does not manifest itself in any way and does not require any treatment. However, it deprives some women of the joy of motherhood and significantly reduces the quality of life. In this case, treatment must be carried out, it can be surgical and conservative.
