A wireless bike computer - what is it and how to choose it?

The bicycle computer promptly displays all the changing parameters while cycling: the bike's pulse, speed, distance. Which bike computer to choose: wireless or wired?

What is good about a wireless bike computer

Many cyclists are used to using wired bike computers and do not want to change them to improved models. But the wireless bike computer is a very convenient device that allows not to think about the wires of various sensors, which now and then threaten to get tangled between the spokes or catch on the tree. And what could be more important for a cyclist than security? By the way, modern versions of wireless computers are quite resistant to shocks, fluctuations and shocks during the movement. Result: The wireless bike computer works without failures, and its data is always accurate.

Bike Computer Functions

The number of functions can reach 50! The most common computers have from 5 to 11 functions. It is clear that all devices, without exception, support the measurement of distance and speed. For beginners, bicyclists are great computers that show the travel time, maximum, average and current speed, distance traveled. More complex versions contain a special strap in the kit, which is put on the biker's chest. With its help, radio signals are transmitted to the screen devices, for example, the heart rate. GPS-navigation allows you to calculate the exact location, configure the route, see the map. The thermometer will not be superfluous either in winter or in summer. A barometer, a stopwatch, and an alarm clock are also useful. Using the altimeter, you can determine the altitude of the location above sea level, calculate the altitude you get when climbing. So if bicycle travels in mountainous terrain, a wireless bike computer will regularly provide the cyclist with information on daily climb, maximum climb, climb speed, maximum altitude. For beginners, the cadence counter function will be extremely useful, with which you can determine the pedal speed. (Good work on a bicycle involves an average of 80 to 120 rpm.) If the cadence is consistently low, then some diseases, such as arthritis of the knee joint, may develop later.

How to choose a bike computer

If the wireless bike computer has a mass of functions, then the control is complicated. That's why before buying it is important to determine the necessary set of functions. You should pay attention to the size of the display: the larger it is, the easier it is to monitor the indicators. A wireless bike computer is inevitably subject to radio interference, so the signal is transmitted with some slowdown, especially while driving around the city. Do not give preference to cheap models: they have an extremely high error in displaying information. Also, pay attention to the tightness of the device, the presence of lighting (it will be needed during night bike tours), as well as an additional device for attaching the device to your hand.
