A two-humped camel is a ship of the desert

A two-humped camel, or Bactrian, is a very large, proud and enduring animal living in Mongolia and China. The locals greatly appreciate it, because the Bactrian is useful on the farm. After all, none of the animals can not do without water and food for many days and at the same time carry on themselves such gravities that even a car can not do. But there is one big drawback - it all makes the camel very slow.

A distinctive feature of Bactrian is the presence of two humps, for example, an African camel has only one hump. These humpbacks are nothing more than an accumulation of fat, thanks to which a camel can not eat for many days and at the same time feel good. Despite the stamina and ability to adapt to any conditions, the Bactrian are on the verge of extinction. They can drink salt contaminated water, eat only spines, transfer nuclear radiation, but they can not stop a man who is their main enemy.

In China and Mongolia, about 1000 camels have been preserved in the wild, according to some data there are still 2 million domesticated animals. But still, the two-humped camel hardly tolerates people's activities, loss of habitual habitat, and constant hunting for them.

Wild animals behave very carefully and try to avoid meeting people.

Bactrians live in small groups of 5-20 individuals. They can be seen in Lob Nor, the Takla-Makan Desert and the Arjin Shan Reserve in northeast China, as well as in the Gobi Desert in Mongolia.

There are fewer camels in the north of Mongolia, where they do not feed on thorns and saxaul, but eat juicy grass in the vast meadows.

A small supply of water, a sharp change in temperature, from vegetation only shrubs and cacti - this is what the camel is used to. The two-humped giant is adapted to the difficult conditions of life. It can quickly shed to relieve the heat, and also quickly build up the coat so as not to die in cold weather. Camels can migrate, but they are limited by the absence of water. If in winter they can at any place quench their thirst with snow, then in the summer they must be at the mountain ranges, where there are sources of fresh water.

The two-humped camel feels great and, it would seem, in the unfit for life of the Gobi desert. Sand storms complicate the lives of these proud animals, but they have very thick, two-layer eyelashes, protecting the eyes from the sand, they have thick hair in their ears, and also have the ability to cover their nostrils. To stand still in the presence of strong gusts of wind, a two-humped camel spreads its legs widely.

The Bactrians are awake during the day, and at night they are resting. In the presence of grass and bushes, animals prefer to feed on them, but if there is nothing, they can easily eat prickly plants and dry bushes. Camels eat a lot to create a reserve at a time when nothing can be found. All excess fat is deposited in the humps, which after supporting the strength of the animal.

In each group of camels there is a leader, a leader to whom all the other members of the herd must submit. A two-humped camel can live up to 40 years, puberty reaches 5 years, at the same time the first baby appears. They bring offspring on average every two years.
