A country that does not have access to the sea. Where are countries that do not have access to the sea

A country that does not have access to the sea is characterized by such a position in the world that borders do not come into contact with large water expanses. It is not about lakes or rivers, namely the seas and oceans, which give access to the world basin, to transport seaways and other privileges.

All such territories have the current form, depending on how the geographic features, features of development of the fishery, science and other branches of human activity were combined, as well as historical events of different epochs. As a result, the world now has 44 isolated from the sea and / or ocean states, located in different parts of the world. Let's start, perhaps, with the hot African continent.

Africa is the leader in the number of countries without access to the sea

Most of the countries that do not have any contact with their borders with water are in Africa. Out of 62 African states, 17 (one of them - Azawad - not recognized by the state) does not have contact with the sea. These are rather large countries - Niger, Mali, Chad, Central African Republic, Southern Sudan, and relatively small countries - Rwanda, Uganda, Burundi, etc. It is here that the largest landlocked country (in terms of population) is located, as well as two Following in the list. Apparently, this land likes to surprise "the most-most."

Because Africa is the second largest continent, it is not surprising that some (and not just one) landlocked country is lost on this continent.

Europe occupies an honorable second place in the number of countries without the sea at their side

A country that does not have access to the sea is also available in Europe. Rather, not one country, but fourteen states and two additional ones not recognized as such (Kosovo, Transnistria) are surrounded only by land. Compared with similar countries in Africa, European brethren "by misfortune" are much smaller in their territory and can lead the opposite rating - the smallest states.

Asia

The collapse of the USSR contributed to the emergence of huge populated areas away from the sea. The landlocked countries of Asia, in the number of twelve recognized and two not recognized states, also supplement the list. Among them: Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Bhutan, etc.

South America and two "cherries on the cake"

Finally, when answering the question of which countries are landlocked, let us recall Bolivia and Paraguay, which are in South America in the "imprisonment" of neighboring countries, which limit their access to the ocean coast.

About the rest of the mainland, there is no speech, because Australia with its mainland is that North America is a continent where all countries have access to the sea. In Antarctica, all penguins can also freely, bypassing any posts, go fishing or sunbathing.

Outstanding elements

The largest country that does not have access to the sea:

- by the size of the territory - Kazakhstan (2.7 million sq. Km); Followed by Mongolia (1.5 million sq km), Chad (1.28 million sq km), Niger (1.27 million sq km);

- Population - Ethiopia - 103 million people (data for 2015); The next is Uganda with 2.5 times more than 41 million people.

What's wrong with the fact that the country does not have its own sea?

Which countries do not have access to the sea, we have already dismantled. But than it is fraught for them? All entertainments, trades and works related to the sea horizons are available only in other countries with which there are corresponding agreements at the state level. Of course, you can also come to any other country to rest on the steamer, sunbathing on the sand, but fishing will not be available everywhere.

Trade interference. What is it? In addition to transporting land through the border with all possible problems along the way, the port congestion problem is added.

A country that does not have access to the sea spends more time waiting for supplies and more money for transportation itself. In addition, you have to fill in a pile of all kinds of papers, wait for the shipment to take longer than in the countries with access to the sea, and you also have to suffer extortion of bribes along the route of land routes. Do you want to drive quickly, without delay? Here is the size of our "taxi".

The lack of access to the sea is rightly considered to be one of the most important problems leading to the economic backwardness of some countries.
