In medicine, the name "stomatitis" characterizes the diseases of the oral mucosa . In newborns, this ailment is usually caused by fungi (thrush). In older children, stomatitis (candidiasis) often occurs after severe infectious diseases, during which treatment with antibiotics was carried out. This is due to the fact that the immune properties of the young organism after the disease decrease, which provokes the reproduction of the fungus. Causes of the disease

Stomatitis in a child, the signs of which are very unpleasant and painful, are most often transmitted by the herpes virus. Babies under the age of three are very sensitive to this disease. Therefore, any contact with a person who has herpes, can trigger the occurrence of stomatitis. The virus is transmitted as a domestic way (toys, dishes, linen), and airborne. In preschool children, streptococcal infections or allergic diseases can also be the causative agents of stomatitis . Often, the development of candidiasis is triggered by oral injuries (biting cheeks, hot food burns, damage to the mouth with a toy, a pacifier, etc.).

Common signs include elevated body temperature, white spots in the tongue and in the mouth, swelling of the gums, pain, increased salivation, swelling of the cervical region and lymph nodes, sour odor from the mouth. Stomatitis in a one-year-old child is accompanied by a failure of food, as this causes pain. In some cases, indigestion and vomiting are possible.

How many days does the disease last? With proper treatment, recovery comes on the fifth or seventh day. Candidiasis has the most pronounced clinic. At the beginning of the disease in the mouth of the baby you can notice a white coating, similar to the cottage cheese. If the disease is not treated, the painful plaques will only grow. White dots covered with a thin film are nothing but an inflamed mucous membrane. Plaques can be on the gums, the inside of the lips and cheeks.

Herpetic stomatitis in a child

The signs of this disease are always visible immediately. The body temperature of the baby rises to 39 degrees, the baby refuses to eat. There is a pronounced intoxication of the body. On the first day, when examined in the oral cavity, one can see swelling and redness. In a day, bubbles with a clear liquid appear on this place. After two days they burst, leaving behind an erosion. With timely treatment, the disease instantly fades, and recovery comes.

Aphthous stomatitis

Characterized by the presence of sores on the oral mucosa. They have a round shape and a smooth red bottom. Usually, the sores are located on the inner surface of the cheeks. The cause of this ailment is infection. Therefore, depending on the reactivity of immunity, the symptoms of the disease in babies can be very different. With untimely treatment of stomatitis, the possibility of secondary infection is increasing.
