A bird of the Yastrebiny family. Description of the brightest representatives

Birds of prey are one of the oldest inhabitants of our planet, and the largest of them is the neck. The bird has the largest wingspan (about 3 m), and the height can reach 1 meter. With such dimensions, the body weight will be of the order of 10 kg. But this is not the only representative of large, winged predators. The Yastrebiny family numbers about 220 species, including: common buzzard, Steller's sea eagle, golden eagle, black vulture and many others. Let's consider some of the species in more detail.

Pacific or Steller's Sea Eagle

This bird of the Yastrebiny family belongs to the group of Falconers. Orlan - one of the rarest species of birds, listed in the Red Book. To date, there are no more than 7,500 individuals of this bird. Habitats are the Far East, where the Steller's sea eagle nests. Outside Russia, a bird can only be found during the winter migration period, in northern China, Japan and the Korean peninsula. Sometimes you can see it on the North-West coast of America.

If you do not take into account scavengers, the largest bird of prey is the Steller's sea eagle. The description of the species reveals very interesting facts:

  • Female eagles are very large, their weight can reach 9 kg, while the maximum weight of the male does not exceed 7.5 kg. On other grounds, they can not be distinguished.
  • The length of the bird (from the crown to the tail), just over a meter.
  • Wings in the span of 2.5 m.
  • Black-brown plumage with snow-white inserts on the forehead, legs, wings and steering feathers looks impressive. Therefore, the Steller's sea eagle is considered one of the most beautiful feathered species of fauna.
  • Only adults can have bright plumage. The youngster lacks white patches on the wings.
  • Beak and paws have a bright yellow color.

The bird feeds mainly on fish, which it catches in reservoirs, using powerful claws with paws and sharp claws. Occasionally, the prey of the eagle can become small birds living near the water, as well as small mammals (for example, a seal puppy).

Ordinary Buzzard

A bird of the Yastrebiny family - an ordinary buzzard (sarych) did not exceed the crow far in size. The wingspan is just over a meter.

The habitat on the territory of Russia is very extensive. The bird can be found both in the West of the country, and on the Far East coast. Kanyuk ordinary lives on most of the Eurasian continent. Sometimes it can be found even in the polar circle. Some of the birds lead a sedentary life (a species that lives in Japan), while others go wintering to warmer countries in Asia and the African continent. In his native land buzzard returns in April.

This bird of the Yastrebiny family creates a nest on the tree, where it lays eggs. In the masonry there may be up to 4 pcs. Their color is dirty white, with red and brown impregnations.

Ordinary buzzard has a unique color. It can range from dark brown to fawn.

Black vulture

Another very large representative of the Yastrebiny family (a squad of scavengers) is the black neck. The bird has predominantly dark brown color, and only on the head this shade is somewhat lighter. Paws are powerful - gray in color. On the front of the head are visible areas of bare skin. Feathers around the base of the neck look like a collar.

The bird infests a large diameter nest in trees, about 2 meters, where it spreads and incubates only 1 egg. The population of the European part of the Eurasian continent is rapidly declining.

A black neck can have a wingspan of 3 m. In search of prey, a bird can travel hundreds of kilometers a day. Habitual habitat:

  • North Africa.
  • Southern regions of Europe.
  • Tibet and Central Asia.

The largest population of these birds lives in Spain.

In Russia, black vulture is found in the Republic of Tyva, on the territory of the Altai and in the Caucasus.

What is a vulture bird?

Another interesting bird of the Yastrebiny family is a vulture. This species belongs to the scavengers. The origin of this unusual name for a bird is of some interest. The fact is that the "vulture" is a derivative of the "bitch". It was by this word that the dead bodies of animals were called until the 19th century, and since the bird feeds mainly on carrion, it was called a vulture.

Habitat Southern regions of Eurasia and Africa. On the territory of the Russian Federation this bird is considered rare, it can only be found in the Caucasus.

The vulture has a white plumage, and only the edges of the wings are painted black. On the head there are no feathers, and the skin has an orange or a bright yellow hue. The wingspan is more than 1.5 m.

The bird uses for food the remains of dead animals, various garbage, eats even excrement, but sometimes can eat fruit.

Vultures living on the African continent are destroying the ostrich masonry, breaking the eggshell about the stones and eating the contents.
