At the very beginning, the Tsarina Sparta Gorgo, the wife of King Leonid, tells his army of the Battle of Marathon, in which Themistocles, at that time a simple soldier, dispelled the troops of the Persian king Darius. He kills the ruler with one shot from the bow, but lets Xerxes fly alive. This act has consequences for the whole people of Greece.

The Tsar-God

Next, the viewer sees how Xerxes became the king-god. After the death of Darius, his son was inconsolable. Taking advantage of the situation, Artemisia, the military commander of the deceased king, convinces him that he must become a god and take revenge on the whole of Greece. For this Xerxes goes to the desert, finds a secret cave with her abominable hermits inhabiting it. Having bathed in the sacred water, he becomes a god among mortal people. There is nothing left of him that could remind the former Xerxes.

From there we also learn the history of Artemisia herself. Her village was burned, the family was killed, and she got on the ship as a slave. When the little girl was left to die, the half-dead Artemisia was found by the Persian ambassador. He grew and made of a deadly enemy girl. At first she became a murderer, and then a military adviser to King Darius. Artemisia became a cold-blooded monster with a beautiful appearance.

Returning from the desert, the king-god begins a war with Greece. Fleet Themistocles, thanks to his brilliant strategy, wins two wins in battles at sea. After two defeats, Artemisia invites Themistocles to her ship for negotiations. She offers herself in return for his fleet and people. But the Greek refuses the owner of the ship. Artemisia in anger drives him away with the promise to meet on the battlefield.

The Collapse of Artemisia

The hero of Greece understands that without the alliance Athens can not last long. In the next battle the Persians set fire to the sea. And the fleet of Themistocles suffers huge losses. And the enemy army, which is also fairly thin, stands in anticipation of the final battle.

In despair, Themistocles goes to the widow of King Leonid and ask for retribution and Spartan ships. Queen Gorgos responds that she gave everything to Greece and does not intend to give anything more. Xerxes foresees the outcome of the battle and orders Artemisia to retreat. But she leads the remnants of the ships into battle against the will of her king, thirsting for the blood of the enemy.

In the decisive battle, a man and a woman converge in battle not to live, but to death. Themistocles kills Artemisia, and the last thing she sees is how Sparta, led by Queen Gorgo, hurries to the aid of the Athenians. In her hands she holds the sword of her husband, thus, revenge for him. The Persians are retreating. Greece is winning its freedom.
