20 kopecks in 1932: description, varieties, numismatic rarities

20 cents in 1932 - one of the most interesting Soviet coins. Despite the fact that the cost of their bulk is low, they are actively collected by numismatists. Of particular value among them are so-called crossbars and coins made from non-standard for a series of alloys.

Start of release

In 1931, for the sake of saving precious silver, it was decided to coin fine denominations of nickel. 10, 15 and 20 kopecks in 1932 and the following years until the monetary reform of 1961 was produced from this metal.

Today the price of a standard nickel twenty-kopeck coin, preserved in good condition, ranges from 60 to 300 rubles, depending on the degree of wear. At the same time, the cost of rare varieties, differing from the main line, reaches 50 thousand rubles, and in special cases and much higher.

20 kopecks in 1932: a new design and a bright future

Coins from this year, in addition to the material received a new design. Anton Fyodorovich Vasyutinsky became the author of the innovative artistic concept. A well-known painter and sculptor, he worked at the royal mint in St. Petersburg. AF Vasyutinsky developed the design of most Soviet coins and medals of the 1920s-1930s. He is the author of the famous mark of the TRP.

The standard coin of 20 cents in 1932 is a yellow nickel disk weighing 3.4 grams and a diameter of 21.8 millimeters. On the obverse is a classic image of the state emblem in the form of a wreath of ears, bandaged with ribbon. In the center is an exaggerated image of the globe with a crossed sickle and hammer. From the lower part of the wreath the sun rises, at the top between the converging ends of the ears is a star. The inscription along the rim "Proletarians of all countries, unite!" Is left, but, unlike the coins of previous years, there is no abbreviation "USSR" on this.

The reverse is solved in a completely new style. Instead of the traditional denomination denomination with a large number and an inscription in the center of the coin, this one shows a worker with a hammer in his hand. He holds a shield on which the denomination of a coin is marked - "20 kopecks." The upper right is the year of release - "1932". All inscriptions are shifted to the right. On a circular rim instead of an abbreviation is the full name of the state: "Union of Soviet Socialist Republics."

Coins are "crossroads"

20 kopecks in 1932 are of interest for their rare varieties. One of these is the famous "crossroads" - coins, where the stamping was mistakenly used with a blank for 3 kopecks in 1926.

On the "classical" twenty-kopeck coin, there is no abbreviation "USSR" on the obverse, however, it appears on the "peregrips" the same font and size as on 3 kopecks, issued from 1926 to 1935. The confusion arose from the similarity of the size of the coins. Today, these are collector's rarities, and their cost starts from 20 thousand rubles.

Marriage, non-standard blanks and other rarities

In total, there are about five varieties of "non-standard" 20 kopecks in 1932. In addition to the "confusion", there are two more variants of a stamp: on the first of the ear, two awns go to the right, on the second - one. On the reverse of coins there are denominations of nominal value in wider figures. In the environment of numismatists they received an amusing name - "sausage", for the similarity of the shape of the hole "0" with a stick of doctor's sausage.

Also rare are coins minted on non-standard blanks. At auctions, you can meet 20 cents in 1932, minted on a piece for a three-kopeck coin. There are 20 kopecks of the same year of production, made on a basis for a quarter.

Certain demand in the environment of numismatists is even obvious marriage - a 20 kopeck coin with a double blow. For coins made of nickel silver, which in themselves are a rarity, is characterized by "unconditioning" with traces of leaf stigma.
