ZIL 130 dump trucks: cars with a rich history

ZIL 130 dump trucks are real veterans of the domestic automotive industry. These machines came off the assembly line for almost half a century between 1962 and 2010. Originally, Moscow was the site for assembling these trucks, but in the early 1990s they began to be manufactured in Novouralsk. These unique cars will be discussed in this article.

Historical reference

ZIL 130 dumpers began to be developed in the already distant from us in 1953. These cars became a modernized version of the model 125. Test truck checks were carried out in 1959, and after three years the first machines began to be sold. In 1963, Soviet automotive engineering was awarded a gold award at the international exhibition in Leipzig. The serial production of ZIL began already in 1964 and soon it began to be massively sold all over the country.

ZIL 130 dump trucks had a wide range of applications. These trucks were used on construction sites, in agriculture, helped utility companies carry out their activities, were involved in commercial purposes and even served in the military. At the same time, the main task of these vehicles was the transportation of heavy loads. Nowadays, the cars of this series are in the ranks of the Ministry of Emergencies of Russia and Ukraine.

Power point

ZIL 130 dumpers originally had six-cylinder engines with a capacity of 135 horsepower and a volume of 5.2 liters. But the practice showed that these indicators were not enough for cars, and therefore the engine underwent modernization. The updated version has already received power of 150 horsepower. A mechanical pump was also built in, which provided acceleration and lubrication of the friction units. The very same engine worked on low-quality gasoline A-76.

Today ZIL 130 is equipped with a four-stroke eight-cylinder engine with a carburetor. The technical characteristics of this engine are as follows:

In the history of the truck has undergone some changes and the body. ZIL 130 dump truck was modernized twice, as a result of which the cabin and the radiator grille were changed. In the rest, no major works were carried out with the car for reconstruction.

General description of the device

ZIL 130 as a whole is quite simple in its structure. On the front suspension there are two semi-elliptic springs, and on the rear - a pair of main and additional springs.

Transmission from the truck is mechanical. The transmission has five speeds. The torque from the box to the rear axle is transmitted by means of a cardan.

The brake system of the machine was initially functioning due to the pneumatic system. The air reserve was provided by the presence of a specialized reservoir. The parking brake had a drum for locking the propeller shaft.

The cab of the car had a streamlined form with a cowl of an alligator type. The number of seats in it was three. At the same time, the driver's seat could be adjusted both vertically and horizontally. The angle of inclination of the back was also changed.

From the innovations of that time it is worth noting the presence of power steering, which allowed to successfully control the machine, even when the wheel ruptured during driving.

The half-century history of the truck shows that it proved to be very unpretentious and simple to operate, so it can still be found on the streets today.
