Yeisk Airport: history and development prospects

Yeisk is one of the popular resorts of the Krasnodar Territory located on the coast of the Azov Sea. Every year thousands of tourists come here from all corners of our country. They like the mild climate of the Yeisk region, the transparent warm sea, the gentle sun, the healing mud and golden sand covering the entire coast.

You can get to the resorts of the Sea of Azov in various ways. It can be a high-speed train, a comfortable long-distance bus or a private car. But modern people, who value their time, almost always prefer to travel by air. Speed is the main advantage of the aircraft.

Location:

But is there an airport in Yeisk? Yes, it is located just five kilometers south-west of the village, which makes it convenient for trips to the resorts of the Azov Sea. If desired, the airport can be quickly reached by taxi or public transport.

But does the airport in Yeisk today work for ordinary tourists? Unfortunately no. In the summer season of 2016, Yeisk airport, however, like in previous years, civil aviation will not be accepted. However, this was not always the case.

The history of the airport and its closure

The airport of the city of Yeisk starts its history in the early fifties of the twentieth century. Here there is a small one-story airport building that fully meets the needs of local airlines between the cities of Yeisk - Rostov-on-Don, Yeisk-Krasnodar. In those days, flights were carried out on AN-2 planes daily for 6-8 round-trip flights.

With the commissioning in 1980 of a new, beautiful building, the airport Eysk extends the geography of its flights. Its passengers are becoming available to new destinations Krasnodar - Yeisk - Mariupol - Donetsk. Time is moving, and gradually new "L-410" turboprops from Czech production are replacing the "An-2". The airport is developing.

But in 1993 all air transportations cease. In 1995, the airport is completely closed due to a lack of funding, all qualified personnel are dismissed.

Revival of passenger traffic and their termination

Eysk Airport for civil aviation is reviving in 2000, when the old building of the terminal was restored with the support of the city authorities and equipped with all necessary equipment, communication and management facilities.

Since June 10, 2000, flights on the An-24 aircraft of the Moscow-based Karat Airlines to Moscow (Vnukovo) have been regularly launched.

Since 2006, the airport Eyska receives admission to receive aircraft "Tu-134". The flight time on the route Moscow-Yeysk is reduced by half. Moscow is becoming a priority of the airport, charter flights are also being carried out.

Since 2009, the airport Eysk passes under the management of "Basel Aero" and becomes the base of the airline "YugLine", the fleet of which has fifteen aircraft.

In 2010, the airline "UTair" starts to conduct regular flights on the route Moscow - Yeisk.

But in 2012 the airfield ceases to serve passenger flights and is completely closed for civil aviation. Partly it is transferred by the military to the air base, the construction of a new training complex for the armed forces of the Russian Federation begins.

Development plans

Today Eysk Airport has three runways, two of which are asphalt concrete, and one is dirt road. Also available is the permission to accept the Yak-42, Tu-134, CRJ-200 and helicopters of any type.

While there is a repair of the runways, passenger transportation is not carried out. However, there is a hope that they will resume. Reconstruction of the lanes is nearing completion, and in the future it is planned to transport civilians not only along the well-known direction Moscow-Yeysk, but also to launch a new one: St. Petersburg-Yeisk.

The opening of the airport Eysk, undoubtedly, will help to increase the tourist flow and development of the resort infrastructure of the region.

Airports nearest to Yeisk

In the meantime, residents and guests of Yeysk can watch over their heads only the training of military aircraft. To use the services of passenger air carriers themselves, they need to cover the distance to the nearest airports in Rostov-on-Don (220 km) or Krasnodar (250 km) by bus or taxi.
