Windows 10 restarts when shutdown: Troubleshooting tips

None of the existing operating systems is immune from crashes and errors. And Windows version 10, despite its relevance, is not an exception. And one of her problems is that sometimes Windows 10 reboots instead of shutting down. How to fix this problem using different methods, see below.

Instead of shutdown, the computer restarts (Windows 10): what's the reason?

Even specialists who know the "top ten", to be called, lengthwise and often, are spread out with their hands. The fact is that the true reason for the spontaneous reboot is still unknown.

However, most experts are inclined to believe that this behavior of the system is connected with NVIDIA graphics cards (more precisely, with their drivers) and malfunctions of system components in unofficial versions of Windows.

As for drivers, the problem that Windows 10 reboots when shutdown, you can solve them with a usual update (either in the "Device Manager" or with the help of specialized programs like Driver Booster).

You can also try to remove all devices connected to NVIDIA graphics adapters (monitors, card drivers) and use the "New Hardware Wizard" to re-integrate these components into the system. Everything is simple.

When the computer is turned off, it reboots. Windows 10: Enable clean boot

More complex are situations where spontaneous reboots are associated with improper operation of some services and components. If Windows 10 restarts constantly when you shutdown, first you should pay attention to the downloading of services.

To fix the problem, use the "Run" console (Win + R), where we enter the msconfig command. Here we select the "Download" tab. In the fields below, you must deactivate all items, leaving only the minimum load line active and ticking the safe mode. We save the changes and overload the system.

Disabling Auto Backup and Service Components

If the problem that Windows 10 reboots when shutdown, remains, then repeat the previous step and look at the "Startup" tab.

If it has any active services, remove the tick from all processes. But that's not all.

After that, for full confidence go to the "Services" tab and in the same way deactivate all the lines (you can use the "Disable all" button located at the bottom of the window). Again, we overload the computer and look at the result.

Power Settings

If Windows 10 reboots again and again when it is turned off, we try to change the installed power scheme. To do this, use the appropriate section in the Control Panel (in laptops you can enter it through the context menu, which is caused by right-clicking on the battery icon in the system tray).

Go to the section of setting the buttons and entering the password, where we first deactivate the requirement to enter it when you leave the hibernation mode, and then uncheck the recommended prompt for enabling the quick launch. Save the changes and try to turn off the computer.

You can use the Registry Editor (regedit in the "Run" menu), where we go down the HKLU branch through SOFTWARE and Microsoft folders to the Explorer section. In the right part, we find the CleanShutdown key, double-click the options menu and change the key value to one (default is set to zero).

Next, open the HKLM branch and go down the tree to the WinLogon directory. On the right, we find the PowerAfterShutdown key and in the same way as in the previous case, we change the key value to one. This will completely turn off the power when turning off the computer (even if the cord is inserted in the system unit or in the laptop connector).

Elimination of the problem of incompatibility of dynamic processor cycles

If all the above described methods do not help even if they are used simultaneously, the problem may be the incompatibility of Windows with the so-called dynamic processor cycles, the processing of which is enabled by default.

To deactivate the processing, use the command line (cmd in the "Run" console), where the following is written : bcdedit / set disabledynamictick yes.

After that, we first reboot the system, and then we try to turn off the computer using the standard method via the "Start" menu. If this service needs to be re-enabled for some reason, use the same command, but with the "no" option.

Problems with BIOS firmware

Finally, the problem of spontaneous rebooting can be associated with the obsolete firmware of the primary BIOS input / output system. You can try to fix the crash by installing a new version, pre-loaded from the official developer resource or at least resetting the settings to default values. However, this situation is extremely rare, in most cases, the above methods help.
