Why Carthage should be destroyed

Cato the elder, the senator of Ancient Rome, finished all his performances before the patricians equally - with the words "Carthage must be destroyed". Many senators laughed at him, some were annoyed by Caton's insistence, but irrespective of the topic of the speech, he obstinately maintained that it was necessary to go to war with Carthage.

From what such perseverance? What caused this obsession: a delicate calculation of the policy or obsession? Why should Carthage be destroyed?

Explanation from the point of view of geopolitics

Geopolitics as a science is based on immutable factors that influence the formation of a given state, such as the geographical location of the country and its landscape. From the space on which this or that state is located, it largely depends on how the country's future development will take place, and how its relations with neighboring states will develop.

The cities of Carthage were the embodiment of the commercial system. Here lived on the principle of individualism, rationalism and complete skepticism. In Carthage, a rich man was considered almost "holy." They did not question the low nature of human nature: corruption, corruption, all methods are good for obtaining maximum profit.

Rome and Carthage

A brilliant power that several times conquered Rome, but in fact - the cult of the dark deity Moloch, who devoured the newborn. The Carthaginians fed hundreds of their babies to their idol in order to obtain more wealth and power. On the ruins of Carthage was discovered a huge number of small skeletons. Hundreds of girls and young men from noble Carthaginian families were sacrificed. Many volunteered to the altar. Sacrifices continued until Carthage was captured by the Romans.

Perhaps Cato, arguing that Carthage must be destroyed, penetrated into the very essence of the struggle of civilizations. After all, the content of the struggle between Rome and Carthage was not a clash of interests, not a struggle for territory. The course of battles predetermined the history of the whole world, at least for several future millennia.

The history of Carthage and Rome is the two poles of one civilization. Rome, too, was not very kind, but at the same time he was walking in a completely different way. The Romans believed in the honor and dignity of man, they honored discipline and their heroes. The corrupting element of money was replaced by direct, light violence. Sinister Moloch was replaced by heavenly gods, arrogant, but fair. The Romans fought, they were not traders. Hence, it was thanks to the maniacal idea of Cato, who maintained that Carthage should be destroyed, that mankind lived exactly this reality.

A bit of history

Carthage was located in the modern city of Tunisia. The ancient state was founded by the Phoenicians in 825 BC. E. By the beginning of the 3rd century, Carthage became a powerful power, which was the reason for the Punic Wars. After Carthage was finally destroyed by the Romans, its territory moved to the Roman province of Africa.

Today, any guest of Tunisia can visit the ruins of an ancient city, but not everyone can see the whole territory. Some of the objects are still being investigated by archaeologists, some are located on the territory of the presidential residence, and everything else occupies such a huge area that it is physically impossible to examine it.

Tourists, as a rule, are interested in the most large-scale monuments, but many of them created not the Pune, but the Romans. From the Punic era, only urban structures, remains of streets, ports and Tophet were preserved. It was here, in Tophet, that small urns with ashes, charred children's skeletons of newborns and the remains of thousands of young men and women were found. All of them were sacrificed to a dark deity.
