Where will the next Winter Olympic Games take place? The capital of the 2018 Winter Olympics is already known

"About sport - you are the world!" - this famous phrase belongs to the legendary Pierre de Coubertin. It is thanks to his initiative that every 4 years the strongest, young and courageous people of the Earth come to one of the countries in order to participate in the sports of the White Olympics. In 2014, the honor of hosting the best athletes of the world was awarded to the Russian city of Sochi. And where will the next Winter Olympic Games take place?

The owner of the White Olympics-2018

The fact that the XXIII Olympic Winter Games will be held in South Korea in the province of Pyeongchang, became known back in 2011 at the 123rd session of the International Olympic Committee, held in Durban. In addition to Pyeongchang, Munich and the French city of Annecy fought for the right to become masters of the main sport forum. But Pyeongchang beat both of them already in the first round of voting. For many, this was a surprise, since South Korea was not the first to participate in such elections and has always lost before.

So, in 2007, Pyeongchang lost to Sochi, which really upset the emotional Koreans, because they were almost sure of their victory. This confidence was so strong that some Olympic sports in South Korea have already begun to be built in advance. At the same time, the leaders of the Sports Committee of Korea decided not to step back from the dream and participate in the next contest. And the dream of the Korean people was realized: Pyeongchang was declared the host of the 2018 Winter Olympics.

Opponents of Pyeongchang

At a time when the question of where the next Winter Olympic Games will take place was still being decided, Ansi and Munich also had a hope of success. Especially strong were the chances of Munich. After all, in comparison with it, Pyeongchang and Annecy are only insignificant settlements on the world map, besides they are not very famous among tourists.

It's quite another thing Munich is one of the largest and most beautiful European cities with developed infrastructure. In addition, 40 years ago in Munich already held the Olympics. True, she remembered the whole world a tragedy: a terrorist act against Israeli athletes.

Since then, the Bavarians have not ceased to hope that the black memories will be washed away by the holding of new Olympic competitions. Many analysts predicted victory to Munich and ... were mistaken! After all, elections are not based on statistical calculations, but on people. For Munich was given 25 votes, for Annecy only 7, but for Pyeongchang 63 representatives of the IOC voted - the capital of the 2018 Winter Olympic Games was elected!

What influenced the choice?

To a large extent, the decision of the International Olympic Committee about where the next Winter Olympics will take place was influenced by the persistence of the Koreans. After all, they participated in the elections for the third time and, as already mentioned above, in advance took care of the erection of new objects of sports infrastructure.

South Korea has entrusted an impressive futuristic presentation of its project to the young figure skater Une Kim and has not lost, this sportswoman enjoys a huge world popularity. IOC President Jacques Rogge, speaking after the election to the public, described the presentation of South Korea as "a very strong and impressive project."

Rogge said that the IOC has no doubt that the XXIII Winter Olympics will leave a huge legacy, the Korean capital will then become the new wonderful center of winter sports in the Asian region. Thanks to this new generations of young athletes of Asia will be able to conduct training at home, then to realize their Olympic dream.

What is famous for Pyeongchang

Place of the 2018 Olympics - the Korean province of Pyeongchang is one of the most beautiful and ecologically clean places on the planet. Most of this area is located at a height that is the most favorable for health - 700 m above sea level. Mountains, clean air, ski resorts and alpine tracks attract Pienchang lovers of outdoor activities from all over the world.

One of the most picturesque places in Pyeongchang is the mountain park Odesan, where you can admire the famous peaks of Pektoksan, Chanamasan and Kenbasan. In this place reign, calm and tranquil atmosphere of pristine nature. There are many historical monuments and buildings connected with Buddhism. Near the Taguval pass in the Sukhyan valley, there are so many fish in the rivers that many Koreans seek to go fishing in these places.

Despite all its beauty and sights, South Korea is still quite a little explored and hard-to-reach country for the rest of the world. The upcoming Olympic Games must correct this situation.

Climate of Pyeongchang

It's no secret that weather conditions play an important role in achieving maximum results in winter sports. Therefore, when it was decided where the next Winter Olympics would be held, Phenchhan's climatic conditions were carefully studied. A certain problem with these places is that in winter there is a very small amount of precipitation, which is a characteristic feature of the monsoon climate. In this Phenchkhan is similar to Sochi.

Therefore, there are fears that real snow at the XXIII Olympic Games may not be enough. But since Koreans are surprisingly purposeful people, there is no doubt that they are able to successfully solve this problem with artificial or imported snow. The main thing is that there are no thaws and rains.

In 2009, during the World Biathlon Championships, Pyeongchang had already suffered from unpredictable weather: heavy rains nearly ruined the competition, literally washing away all the snow from the track. Only the colossal efforts of the organizers helped to avoid the disruption of the championship.

Plans of Phechhana

Kim Jin-sun, president of the Organizing Committee "Pyeongchang-2018", speaking at the Sochi Olympics, told a press conference about plans for the next Winter Olympic Games. Including, Kim Jin-sung announced some figures: it is planned to spend about 9 billion dollars on the arrangement of the Korean Olympics. Of which, 7 billion will be spent on the development of infrastructure and 2 billion for the construction of sports facilities and arenas. At the same time, most private investment is made up of private investments. For South Korea, the holding of the Winter Olympic Games is an event of national scale, which is actively supported by 91% of the population.

Now there is an active design of the infrastructure system and 6 stadiums. The task of the organizers of the Olympics is facilitated by the fact that at the time of Pyongyang's selection as the capital of the Games-2018, many sports facilities have already been built. A feature of the South Korean Olympics is that all zones will be in maximum availability for fans. And before any sports point can be reached on foot. In South Korea, the service industry is well developed, which should also appeal to the guests. And Pyeongchang is considered one of the most environmentally friendly cities on Earth, so the expected Olympics has already earned nicknames from journalists the most "green" in human history.

In order to adopt the Russian experience in the preparation for the Olympic Games 2014, Sochi was attended by 200 specialists from Asia. Sports facilities in Pyeongchang will be located following the example of Sochi, in two separate areas: for ice and snow sports. At the conference, Kim Jin-Sung for the first time voiced the slogan of future winter games: "Pyeongchang 2018 - the new horizons of Asia."

Sports of South Korea

Recently, South Korea is actively developing as a sports power. There are many athletes in the country who are the pride of not only Asia, but the whole world.

  • Park Ji-sung is one of the most titled football players in Asia;
  • Kim Yuna is a legendary figure skater, who is called a figure skating princess;
  • Hon Un Jeong - Olympic champion in 2008 in artistic gymnastics;
  • He Ton Hyun is a two-time Olympic champion in archery;
  • Pak Tae Hwan is the 2008 Olympic swimming champion;
  • Son Yong Jae - the star of rhythmic gymnastics.

And many other talented athletes.

Go Russia!

4 years will fly by unnoticed! Athletes around the world do not have much time to prepare properly for the next Games. Therefore, by September 30, President Putin must be provided with a detailed plan for training our athletes to participate in the Winter Olympics. This program should provide for comprehensive measures that can improve the results of Russian teams in such sports as biathlon, skiing, snowboarding, Nordic combined, curling, hockey, jumping from a springboard. Our athletes have much to strive for, we wish them good luck and success in their quest for new victories!
