Where is the quadriceps femoris and what are its functions

The front surface of the thigh and some part of its lateral surface is occupied by the quadriceps muscle, the heads of which begin separately. And in the knee they unite in the tendon, attached to the tuberosity, located on the tibia, and covering the patella.

The quadriceps femoris is a set of four heads, and the longest of these is the straight muscle, which completely occupies the anterior femoral surface. It begins in the superoriginal groove, moving from its front lower axis downwards, passing into a narrow tendon that is part of the common tendon.

The wide medial muscle is located in the lower half of the thigh and occupies its anterior medial surface. It originates from a rough line, and from its medial lip passes downward, transforming into a broad tendon, partially interwoven with a straight muscle and attached to the edge of the patella, forming its supporting ligament.

Another head occupies the anterior lateral surface and is called the broad lateral thigh muscle. It is slightly closed by a straight muscle and a muscle that strains a wide fascia. It starts from a wide hip line, in the area where there is a large spit, an intertwining line and a lateral lip. Knizu it passes into a wide tendon, which is part of the common tendon, and takes part in the formation of a supporting lateral ligament of the patella.

The fourth head is a wide intermediate muscle, which is located between the medial and lateral muscles. It is under the straight muscle of the thigh and is the weakest of the heads. Starting from the anterior plane of the femur, the intermediate muscle, from half the length, passes into a broad tendon, which in turn is attached to the tendon of the rectus muscle and passes into the common tendon.

The quadriceps muscle, like the triceps femoris, solves the main task, which is to extend the leg in the knee, and the rectus muscle also helps to flex the thigh. It is very strong and large, since it helps the knee joint to withstand the body weight. The quadriceps muscle of the thigh performs two functions, it is dynamic, consisting in straightening the maple during movement, and a static one, which prevents the knees from bending when standing in place.

All muscles require a certain load. In order for the quadriceps femoris to successfully perform its basic functions, it must be constantly maintained in tone. To do this, such exercises as classical squats, squats with dumbbells or barbells, presses with their feet, attacks with dumbbells are good.

A bruise of this muscle can occur with a shock in front or side. It is accompanied by pain and swelling, the amplitude of movements in the knee and hip joint is reduced. The severity of these symptoms depends on the strength of the impact. A little later, a bruise or bruise may appear, eventually increasing in size and descending downward. There are times when she goes to the shin or foot. The diagnosis of the injury of the quadriceps muscle is prescribed by the doctor, since other possible lesions should be excluded. To check if there is a fracture, X-rays are taken, and ultrasound measurements measure the size of the hematoma and muscle defect.

In some cases, such complications in the muscle as a subfascial hypertensive syndrome, that is, infringement and ossifying myositis, characterized by the deposition of calcium salts, can occur. The quadriceps muscle of the hip is treated with anesthetics after the injury, its strength, as well as the mobility of the knee joint, is prevented by myositis with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
