Where is the cave Tanechkina. Description, interesting facts

In the Leningrad region in the Volkhov district there is the village of Staraya Ladoga, which is called the ancient capital of Northern Russia. There are many attractions that attract tourists. One of the most interesting are the artificial caves used to extract quartz sand. Tourists visit two of them - Staroladozhskaya and Tanechkina. About the last and will tell the article.

How did Tanechkina Cave

Old Ladoga attracts fans of dungeons and adventures, as here they can visit the mysterious cave with a maze of galleries and an underground lake - Tanechkin.

This is a man-made quarry, which originated in the late 19th century, when white quartz sandstone for glass production was started to be mined here. The extraction was conducted by a chamber-and-pillar method, and numerous large cavities-columns were formed. Between them left pillars - columns - to maintain the arch (this helped to avoid collapses).

Today, works are not carried out here due to the depletion of mineral resources, Tanechkin's cave has long been abandoned. Over the years, nature worked on it: streams crept into the dungeon, limestone deposits arose on the walls, embryos of future stalactites and stalagmites appeared. The cave itself has become a popular tourist destination.

Description

As already mentioned above, extraction of quartz sand in the quarries of the Old Ladoga was conducted by a chamber-and-pillar method. Thanks to this cave Tanechkina has acquired a fabulous appearance: numerous galleries and underground halls, the vaults of which support majestic columns, resemble a magical palace. The walls are decorated with quirky patterns from multi-colored layers of rocks. Their height almost everywhere does not exceed 1.2 meters.

Also picturesqueness to the underworld is attached to a large lake, the depth of which reaches half a meter. When the heat comes up, the lake dries up, leaving only a few puddles separated. During the spring floods, this underground reservoir is again filled to the brim.

Tanechkina cave - the longest in the Leningrad region. According to official data, its length is more than 7.5 kilometers (this is in view of the fact that some galleries collapsed). Local residents claim that its real length exceeds 40 kilometers, and underground passages lead to an ancient fortress in Staraya Ladoga.

Cave of Tanechkina: how to get

This quarry is located at the foot of Mount Malysheva, which is near the Staroladozhskaya fortress.

To easily find a cave, you must first get to the Old Ladoga:

  • On the highway Novaya Ladoga-Zuevo or St. Petersburg-Petrozavodsk;
  • By train in the direction of St. Petersburg-Murmansk, Petrozavodsk or Vologda; To get off at the station of Staraya Ladoga;
  • From St. Petersburg by train from the Moscow railway station to the stop Volkhovstroy, then by bus number 23.

Then from the village, drive / pass 1.5 kilometers along the route No. A115, then turn to the river bank and walk along it 600 meters to the cave itself. The entrance to it is almost unnoticeable, so it's better that the place is shown by locals or guides.

Landmark can also serve as Old Ladoga mounds, from which about a kilometer is the cave Tanechkina.

Attention! Is it dangerous!

Many tourists are attracted to Tanechkina Cave. Excursion with an experienced guide for all leaves an unforgettable impression. But extreme lovers try to get to the quarry alone. A walk through the underground labyrinths from narrow grottoes, intricate transitions between spacious halls and woven interlocks can end badly. Firstly, you can easily get lost, and secondly, fall under the cave-in, which is not uncommon, thirdly, to experience the attack of bats that live under the cave's arches, which is very unpleasant.

Tourists should know that visiting Tanechka Cave alone is very dangerous!

Interesting Facts

Why Cave Tanechkina, why such a sweet name? There are no official documents explaining the origin of this name, so you can say that the cave was christened by the people. Local residents say that many decades ago in Staraya Ladoga lived a man who alone raised his daughter Tanechka. They lived very amicably, his father worked in the quarry, and his daughter brought him dinner every day. One day the girl did not return from the cave. They scattered it throughout the village for several days. My father did not find a place for himself from grief. But on the 4th day of searches, Tanechka was found - she was frightened, exhausted, but safe and sound. Since then, this place is called - the cave Tanechkina.

In the cave there is a place where the same temperature always keeps - +6 ° С. Scientists-speleologists are studying this phenomenon.

The Tanechkina Cave is declared a protected area due to the fact that several colonies of bats settled there - water and pond moths, northern leather jackets, earflaps and night stumps of Brandt. More than 400 individuals of these animals live here.

In winter, in high water and during heavy rains, the entrance to the cave is closed.

Walking along the cave can be on foot or by boat on an underground lake.
