Where does a rhinoceros (beetle)

In the wild, you can meet various interesting creatures. One of them is a bizarre rhinoceros beetle, belonging to the family of lamelliformes, subfamily duplics. There are many subspecies of this insect in nature. Such a name was given, because their larvae can be found in old hollows. However, their life activity takes place in rotten wood, in decaying vegetation residues, in soil with humus, in reparted manure. These are all the places where a rhinoceros live. Beetles that have grown live openly.

Spread

Where does the rhino live, in which zone? The species is distributed throughout the European part of Russia. It can be seen in the Crimea and in the south of Siberia. Such a beetle is not uncommon in the central part of the state.

As a result, the area of distribution where the rhino dwells, the continent of Eurasia, is obtained.

Appearance

The male has an unusual appearance, he really looks like a true rhinoceros. He has a large protrusion on his head - this is a sharp horn bent backwards. He has angular edges. It can be assumed that for other small insects he is a real rhino. There are times when this insect can reach large sizes up to four centimeters, but this is not the limit of their growth.

The unusual appearance of the beetle attracted the human eye to it in ancient times. Therefore, he is well known everywhere. Not many animals are used in folklore. But the rhinoceros beetle is given such an honor, so we can say that this is another place where a rhino dwells.

The color of the beetles is dark brown or chestnut-brown, may be reddish-brown. Females have a more modest appearance. On the pronotum, they have only a barely noticeable tubercle. The back is smooth, but the abdomen and legs are covered with red hairs. The larvae of these insects are large. Development in beetles occurs very slowly, in their own feed substrate can be up to 4 years.

The body of the insects is massive, oblong, convex, with strong paws. The rear beetle rests, and digs the forelegs. The female has a slightly wider body. The limbs and abdomen are slightly lighter.

Features of life activity

In the middle of summer on manure piles you can often see these beetles, these are the places where a rhinoceros live. If you dig a pile, then almost with an absolute probability in the depths of the larvae. Adult individuals fly in the evenings. They do not need to eat, they exist at the expense of accumulated substances during larval maturation. For insects of this type, the main purpose is to find a partner and leave offspring.

Natural role

Perverted manure is a favorite place where a rhinoceros beetle lives. It is with this product that beetles get into greenhouses and greenhouses, in which owners are often surprised to find them. In the southern zone, they fall into the greenhouses, where they grow a chibouk. Saplings of grapes from these insects suffer greatly, because they eat off their young roots. In addition, rhinoceroses can harm the roots of lemon, roses and other plants.

In former times, when oak cortex was used in the production, rhinoceroses lived comfortably in their stocks, spoiling them.

Development of insects

Rhinoceros - a different insect. When fertilization is performed, the female lays eggs in old stumps, in manure, tree trunks and after that dies. Leaving offspring, she completes the life cycle. Hatching of the larvae occurs in thirty days, they remain in the nest for three years. As food they have substances of organic decay. The size of the larvae is quite large - up to nine cm in length, C-shaped curved, covered with hairs.

After the accumulation of a good supply of nutrients, the larva becomes a pupa, before it is transferred three molts. In this stage, the insect can be from twelve to thirty days. At first it is a light brown color, and then the shade becomes darker. In spring, a rhinoceros beetle appears from the pupa. The earth is a place where a rhinoceros lives, coming to the surface only in the dark.

The beetle has enemies. They feed on gamas mites and birds.

The rhinoceros beetle is not found as often as, for example, in May. But getting in the field of view, immediately attracts attention to yourself. After all, his appearance is really unusual and original. A small miracle of nature. Despite the formidable appearance, they have a peaceable disposition. They do not bite or harm others.
