When celebrating the birthday of the Internet

An integral part of the daily life of a modern person is the Internet. But few people will remember when it was swallowed up by the World Wide Web. And even more so, only a few are aware when the decisive day for all mankind has come. The birth of the Internet is an event that led to one of the largest discoveries of the 20th century. So let's figure out what day in the year is dedicated to this holiday.

The history of the Internet

Like any other significant invention for mankind, in the biography of the Internet there is a decisive day for him - the Birthday of the Internet. It has its own history, which must be read in order to answer the main question of this article.

The beginning of this long and intricate history takes its roots in the United States. In 1957, the Ministry of Defense of the United States of America submitted the idea of creating a new system for transferring data between the highest government officials. This was very useful, because at this time was a cold war, and the government needed a backup system for information exchange.

Scientists of the time it was difficult to translate this idea into practice. Therefore, the US government ordered the specialists from California, Stanford and Utah universities to create a network that could unite several computers among themselves. The implementation of this project took 12 years. Only in 1969 universities were able to unite with one small network. This, of course, aroused great interest on the part of the authorities, so a lot of money from the state treasury was allocated for further development.

Already in 1971, it became possible to exchange e-mails through ARPAnet. And in 1973 a small internal grid received the status of an international network. It was this year that the Americans tied the Department of the United States with the government of Norway and Britain across the Atlantic Ocean. But the birthday of the Internet can not be tied to this date, because the Internet is a worldwide network, not an international one.

How the Internet appeared

So, the start was given, but when did the Internet get its usual look, which is familiar to us directly?

In 1983, a single data transfer protocol was developed. We know it as TCP / IP. At the same time, the name of the technology for data transmission was chosen - the Internet. It quickly entered the lexicon of knowledgeable users and has been successfully applied to this day.

In 1984, a system of modern domains appeared. They had and still have their appearance: xxx.ru, xxx.by, xxx.com, etc. New channels of communication continued to be created, in 1984 there were about 10 thousand active computers.

In 1988, it became possible to transmit information in real time. Prior to this, the transmission of information through e-mail was still relevant. Also, an IRC protocol was created, which allowed switching from letters to direct communication.

In 1989, British scientists submitted an idea - to transform the international web into a worldwide one. This proposal was based on the creation of the same HTTP, URL and HTML protocols. This was a decisive step in the future expansion of the Internet.

In 1990, there was a first connection to the Internet via a telephone line. And already in 1991 the Internet became a property in all countries of the world, naturally, only for those who had access to it. Also on May 17, 1991 approved a single standard for pages of Internet sites. Therefore, an alternative day for the emergence of the "World Wide Web" is considered on May 17. The birthday of the Internet does not have a single common date, so further the dates of this day will be marked in some countries of the world.

In 1993, programmers developed the first Internet browser. He worked under the name NCSA Mosaic. At that time he was very popular, but, unfortunately, he could not live up to our days. Also in 1993, the Internet became available to ordinary users. Before that, only scientists and specialists had access to it.

In 1995, Internet service providers assumed responsibility for the work of the World Wide Web. Before that, all rights belonged to the US National Science Foundation. Internet providers were able to reach the figure of 10 million computers that have access to the network. And after 5 years, this figure has increased more than five times and this was not going to stop there.

Birthday of the Internet in some countries of the world

We understand further. As already mentioned above, there is no specific number to which this day could be attributed. Birth of the Internet Does not have an international date. Therefore, users independently chose a significant event for their country in the history of the Internet and tied the names of the world wide web to it. Birthday of the Internet is celebrated in different parts of the world.

In the USA and Europe

Since the roots of the Internet network originate in the US, then, accordingly, it has a huge number of users there today. The Internet birthday in the United States is celebrated on April 4. This is due to the ascension of St. Isidore of Seville. It is believed that he is the patron saint of the Internet (the Catholic Church does not confirm this information).

In Russia

The birthday of the Internet in Russia is celebrated on September 30 and April 7. The first date was put forward by the company IT Infoart Stars, it also initiated the "census" of active users of the World Wide Web in Russia. In 1998 there were about 1 million virtual Russians. As for the second date, on April 7, 1994 the domain xxx.ru appeared in the international domain system. But neither the one nor the other day has not gained its popularity among ordinary users. Hardly and the advanced users somehow on a special note this holiday, probably, only if they give each other internet-gifts. The birthday of the Internet sooner or later still get the status of a mass celebration, because it has firmly and permanently occupied its niche in the life of every person.

In Uzbekistan

Residents of Uzbekistan, just like Russians, timed this date to the date of the appearance of the international Internet domain. April 29, 1995 there was a domain xxx.uz. Although Uzbekistan is not the most developed country in the field of IT technologies, its entry into the World Wide Web has already turned 21, which is quite a serious figure. The main communication channel is from Uzbekistan to Kazakhstan, and from there to Russia. Also, in addition to popular search engines, the local search engine Voydod.uz is also available in Uzbekistan, which takes into account the peculiarities of Uzbek fonts.

Conclusion

It is unfortunate that there is no such day as International Internet Day. Every day, it helps millions of people, giving them round the clock access to an unlimited amount of information. We hope that this article will help the world wide web to gain a deserved recognition and spread the popularity of the World Internet Day celebration.
