What should the owner do if the cat has diarrhea?

Many "kotatniki" panic if at their home pet - at a cat - diarrhea. What should be done in this case? The main thing that all pet owners should understand is that any diarrhea is primarily a symptom of the disease. The reasons for its occurrence in a pet are great.

Therefore, first we need to find out what caused an intestinal disorder in the animal, and eliminate the main underlying cause. Often diarrhea is a reaction of the body to the wrong nutrition of the animal. For example, you can not feed pussy only meat and milk, it is strictly forbidden to fill food with spices, vinegar or salt. And it is absolutely unacceptable to give food cooked from spoiled food.

In general, our "smaller brothers" knowingly carry such a title. They really look very much like little children. Therefore, all those reasons that can relax the intestines in human babies, can well provoke both diarrhea in kittens, and indigestion in already quite adult individuals. Proceeding from this, it can be assumed that the disease of the pet can arise in connection with the move from anxiety or fright, from motion sickness, after a visit to a doctor or with the advent of new animals. And, of course, such a reaction is likely after major family quarrels or after severe punishment of the animal. Well, just like with little children! Pets are extremely sensitive to the atmosphere that surrounds them.

Just like little men, the kitty react to new unfamiliar food. Therefore, in order not to cause a cat diarrhea and do not trouble you, it is necessary to introduce new bait carefully, quite a bit, once a day, strictly watching how they are digested. After all, quite often any food from a living being can cause an allergic reaction in the form of vomiting or diarrhea, fever or constipation. By the way, the same reaction can give a change of urban water to wells or vice versa.

It should be noted the most frequent reason, because of which there is a diarrhea in the cat - this is overfeeding. Usually in such cases diarrhea is characterized by a single liquid stool, quite abundant. Treat this "disease" very easily: just reduce the amount of food. An adult cat can be removed from this state by fasting within 24 hours, a small kitten needs to be deprived of food for 8 to 12 hours, depending on the age. But the water of the representatives of the cat family should always be free - clean, fresh, if possible, boiled, but not carbonated!

It is much more difficult to cure an animal on its own, if the cat has diarrhea due to some infectious disease or poisoning. In these cases, you just need to contact the veterinarian as soon as possible! Perhaps, the bill already goes for a minute, urgently you need to do a lavage of the stomach, give the animal an antidote or even have an operation. So, if the owners have suspicions that the cat ate some poison, you need to quickly show the animal to the doctor.

Small kittens, especially those who are not vaccinated, often get sick with a plague, which is also accompanied by diarrhea and vomiting, refusal of food. In time, the measures taken can help save the kitten's life.

Also deadly can be a prolonged diarrhea (more than a day), it can cause dehydration of the body. Diarrhea with bloody impregnations should also be treated by a knowledgeable experienced physician. The color of the stool plays an important role: brown indicates that either the cat took food that caused the allergy, or ate a spoiled product, or reacted to some medicine, for example, anthelmintic; White indicates that the animal is sick with a dangerous viral disease panleukopenia, so treatment in the clinic is urgently needed!

But in cases when there is no virus or serious chemical poisoning, it is quite possible to cope with the problem on your own. So, because of moving, for example, a cat had diarrhea, what to do?

If there is no temperature above 38, 8 degrees, there is no weakness and pain, you should make a short-term hunger strike (water - plenty) and twice a day give activated charcoal (1 tablet per 10 kg of live weight) and a decoction of chamomile and St. John's wort 5 ml each. Coal should be crushed and stirred with water, mix the mixture into a syringe without a needle and pour the cat into the mouth of the cheek, holding it by the chin. In the same way it is necessary to water the animal with curative decoctions - they will strengthen its intestines. In the most extreme case, you can give the cat a child's medicine for diarrhea, calculating the dose by the number of kilograms.

Switch to normal food should also be gradually, first you can use baby puree with poultry meat, in which there are no carbohydrates and especially starch. To feed you need reduced proportions, approximately, twice. Then it is quite possible to give the sickly animal a boiled yolk and boiled chicken white meat. Very useful at this time for cats boiled rice. Such a diet should be adhered to within 3-4 days, and then a smooth transition to the usual food is possible.
