What is treated with Shostakovskiy's balm. Application, composition of Shostakovskiy balsam

Shostakovskiy's balm is a medicament for antiseptic action. With its help, wound surfaces, ulcerous lesions of the skin and mucous membranes are treated. In medicine it is also called "Vinilin".

Peruvian Balsam

The history of this drug begins around the mid-30's. At that time there were no antibiotics, and the streptocide was only part of the practice. Therefore, surgeons needed new, more effective means to treat purulent processes. After many studies, scientists decided to carry out tests of Peruvian balsam, extracted from some species of South American pine.

Their results were positive - with the help of the drug it was possible not only to suppress external purulent processes, but also to prevent the development of gas gangrene. Since 1940, bandages with Peruvian balsam have become widely used in surgery.

Synthetic analogue of Peruvian balsam

But the demand for the drug grew very rapidly, which triggered the emergence of a deficit. Therefore, scientists began to look for a synthetic tool that would be analogous to the Peruvian. Soon Soviet scientist Mikhail Shostakovskiy managed to synthesize artificial healing balm by polymerization of vinylbutyl ether.

As a result, Shostakovskiy's balm became an analog of natural Peruvian balsam. In addition, the synthetic drug has some pharmacological properties that are not characteristic of the natural. And the most important of them is absolute harmlessness, which is caused by the fact that it does not penetrate deep into the cells of the body.

Nowadays the form of the preparation is balm in bottles made of dark glass and having a volume of 100 g. The main active substance of the drug is polyvinoks.

Pharmacological properties

"Vinilin" (Shostakovskiy's balm) is used either externally or taken internally. The active ingredients of the medicinal product are characterized by pronounced antiseptic and wound healing effects. In case of contact with the wound surface, the balm performs the following functions:

  • Actively fights against pathogenic microorganisms;
  • Dehydrates the lesion;
  • Accelerates regeneration processes.

In addition, Shostakovskiy's balm is used for internal use. With its help, the ulcerous surfaces of the mucous membranes of the digestive canal heal and heal much faster.

Numerous reviews of patients suggest that Shostakovskiy's balm significantly accelerates the healing of skin ulcers and cracks. At the same time, the sensations of pain become less intense after the first use.

Use of balm in dental practice

Found a balm Shostakovskogo ("Vinilin") and use in dental practice. Still his Peruvian analogue was used to fill the canals of the tooth with gangrenous roots. Liquid or semi-liquid fillings were better enveloped and adhered to the canal walls.

Balm was often used in conjunction with iodoform. It was also practiced to insert it into the gangrenous canals just before the tooth was sealed.

Since the synthetic "Vinilin" (Shostakovskiy balsam) is cheaper and generally available, and also has anesthetic and bacteriostatic properties, it can be successfully used in dental practice instead of a natural Peruvian analogue.

Vinilin in X-ray therapy

Scientists VA Sondak and AI Ruderman proposed using Shostakovskiy's balm for X-ray therapy of malignant neoplasms. In doing so, they used a 20% vinyl solution with a cream (vegetable) oil. It was used after each x-ray therapy for 1 tablespoon inside to prevent the onset of inflammatory reactions on the mucous membranes. In order to treat the inflammation of the mucous membrane of the esophagus with Shostakovskiy's balm, it is necessary to increase the dose of the drug to 1 tablespoon every 4 hours.

In order to prevent the emergence of dry and wet epidermis, it is necessary to lubricate the skin of the irradiated patient with a balm after each session. Treatment of dry epidermis involves daily lubrication of affected skin with a drug. At the same time, the wetting forms of the disease are first treated with hydrogen peroxide, and only then is impregnated with "Vinilin" gauze bandage. When treating x-ray ulcers, it is recommended to treat them with penicillin on novocaine, and then apply a napkin with Shostakovskiy's balm.

Use of Shostakovskiy balsam in dermatology

Synthetic balm "Vinilin" is used to treat various pustular skin diseases that have streptococcal or staphylococcal type of origin. These include:

  • impetigo;
  • Ecthyma;
  • Ulceration after carbuncles and boils.

The use of balm promotes a good purification of such pathologies from pus, release from putrefactive odor if there is one. At the same time inflammation quickly subsides, and painful sensations disappear.

Widespread treatment of Shostakovskiy with various erosive and ulcerative skin processes, which have a diverse origin. In particular, those that have arisen due to such diseases as:

  • Carbuncles;
  • Furuncles;
  • Ecthyma;
  • Hydroacetinites;
  • Abscesses of the skin and lymph nodes, etc.

After the drug is injected into the cavity of abscesses or fistulous holes, their size and depth are significantly reduced, healing and scarring are significantly accelerated.

The Shostakovskiy balsam corresponding to the natural analog is used for scabies, which does not have complications in the form of ostiofolliculitis and folliculitis. On them, the drug has no effect, because it is difficult enough absorbed through the stratum corneum. So when using "Vinilin" decreases eosinolia in the blood, often observed with scabies.

In addition to all this, Shostakovskiy's balm is actively used for the treatment and prevention of such dermatological diseases as:

  • Cracks and extensive erosion in epidermophytia;
  • Eczema;
  • Professional dermatitis;
  • Skin rashes on the face, caused by gastritis with high acidity (vulgar and redheads), etc.

Use of medicinal product in surgery

In surgery, the use of Shostakovski balsam is associated with the treatment of fresh, as well as old wounds and burns. With the help of this drug, the growth of microorganisms is significantly delayed. In most cases, after the second dressing, there is no microflora. In addition, the cytological picture sharply changes: the phagocytic function increases, the number of neutrophils increases, which provokes vigorous destruction of microorganisms by phagocytes.

The use of "Vinilin" in surgical practice is simple.

  • First you need to hold a preliminary wound toilet.
  • Immediately on the wound surface, apply a moistened balm gauze bandage. You can also simply pour the wound with balm and apply a usual bandage.

In the treatment of thermal or chemical burns of different degrees, the balm is applied directly to the wound surface.

Other possibilities of drug use in surgical practice include:

  • Air disinfection in operating units;
  • Use as an anesthetic for small operations;
  • Application as an additive to nitrous oxide and oxygen.

Side effects

Practically all patients normally tolerate the taking of this drug.

But sometimes there are side effects such as:

  • An allergic skin reaction in the form of a rash, itching, a feeling of tightness;
  • Dryness and peeling of the skin at the site of application;
  • Pain in the abdomen, stool.

In our time, many experiments are conducted using the Shostakovskiy balsam, which opens up new and broader prospects for it.
