What is the video card setup?

The owner of a personal computer that wants to fully unlock the performance potential of its electronic assistant is simply obliged to know how the video card is configured. In this matter, you should not rely too much on developers, relying on the so-called default settings.

Vidyushka, video card, video adapter, graphics adapter - all these are names of the same device that is a part of any personal computer and laptop. Its main task is simple - to convert part of the internal digital data of the system bus to monitor control signals. In other words, the video card allows you to see the result of the programs on the screen. Of course, by just drawing a picture, the circle of problems solved by it is not limited - modern vidyushki include a complex graphics processor, the processing power of which often exceeds the same parameter for the central processors.

What is a video card setup? One of the features of computer technology is that without the control software (driver), any component is nothing more than a useless set of lacquer, textolite and electronic components. With some reservations, a component without drivers can be compared to a body without a soul.

One of the features of the drivers for video adapters is the ability to make adjustments to their work. And this can be done by the user himself, by pressing the mouse button several times. This configuration of the video card allows both to increase the performance of the graphics subsystem when processing 3D applications, and to obtain a higher image quality. In addition, other changes associated with the graphics are also allowed.

Now their video cards are represented on the market by three companies - Intel with their HD, nVidia with GeForce series and ATI (purchased AMD) with the Radeon family. In the driver of any of them, the video card can be configured. The difference is only in the opportunities provided for adjustment.

Let's turn to practice and look at an example of how the ATI graphics card is configured in the Windows 7 operating system environment. Of course, to configure the driver parameters, it must first be installed. Usually there is a disk with the card on which this control program is contained. For integrated solutions (as well as laptops), you need to use the disk to the entire motherboard.

In any free point of the desktop, we press the right mouse button and in the appeared menu we select Catalyst Control Center. The column on the left is quite informative - it is easy to find the required item. Let's start in order. The Radeon graphics card starts with the desktop control point. Here the interest is the ability to set brightness and color intensity. In three-dimensional graphics does not work.

"Common tasks" will be useful with several connected monitors - here they are activated for their search and tuning.

The item "Flat digital panels" is more informative. Here you can select the zoom mode (can be blocked) and make adjustments to the interface that can affect the image on the screens connected via the DVI-HDMI adapters of the TVs. In the color temperature adjustment, check the box.

The "Video" item allows you to configure the display of the video stream (movies).

In the "Games" section you can make settings in the algorithm of the GPU. Pointing to the desired item, you can see the highlighted hint.

In the "Performance" section you can significantly increase the speed of the card by increasing the frequencies above their nominal value - this is called "overclocking".
