What is Segway?

Is it Segway? The photo of the device presented in this material confirms the innovative nature of such a vehicle. In fact, the technological device is a two-wheeled electric scooter, which is "able" to independently maintain equilibrium. Promotes this by having an automatic balancing system in space.

Segway is a unique invention that enables the user to enjoy high-speed driving without the need for long driving training. Such devices are safe, easy to operate, environmentally friendly. These features make two-wheeled electric cars extremely convenient, but not cheap entertainment.

History

The idea of creating Segway was first presented to the general public in 1991 by the American inventor Dean Kamen. However, the successful implementation of the conceived the developer had to spend as much as 10 years. Therefore, the first sigvei was released and successfully tested only in 2001.

In 2006, several decayed company Kamen was bought by millionaire Jimmy Hesledenom, which gave rise to the development of new-generation two-wheeled electric cars. Modernization here affected, above all, the unstable bushing of the steering wheel. In new models, the direction of motion was set by the slopes of the body, and not by pressing the keys, as it was in the basic samples.

Sigvey - description

The name of the device comes from the definition of segue, which means - a sequential, dimensional transition from one state to another and the word way, which translates as "road" or "path".

Structurally, the innovative invention is represented by a platform on two large wheels. In the front part of the device contains a rack with a horizontally located steering bar.

It would seem that the above design in practice should be completely unstable. However, a special mechanism for stabilizing the device facilitates the balancing of the user while driving.

Features of functioning

Sigway is a vehicle for which a unique system called Dynamic Stabilization is responsible for its control. It is based on a group of special position sensors in space and gyroscopes, which relentlessly record the direction of displacement of the center of gravity of the user located on the site of the device. Thanks to the received data, the system determines in which direction the person is bending, preventing falls. If the user's body is tilted backward or frontal, the sigve automatically moves in the same direction.

Application

In practice, sigvei is an instrument whose possible areas of operation are minimized. Despite the continued modernization, as well as the efforts of marketers, the device still continues to cause interest only among enthusiasts. However, the movement on such an electric scooter in the city streets is quite practical and more convenient solution compared to the same bike.

In the United States, sigvei are widely used by postal workers, government officials, office and technical personnel as a mobile, safe means of transportation.

The main difficulty on the way to mass dissemination of the invention still remains its prohibitively high cost for the bulk of interested users. Even today, the price of most of the sigvei equals the amount that is enough to buy a quite decent car.

At present, the only way to mass distribution of vehicles is to attract public attention to the deterioration of the environment. However, to force the population to switch to the use of such transport is potentially capable of constantly rising prices for fuel.

Control

To force the sigve to move, the user just tilts the body forward. And the more there is a displacement of the mass of the person in the frontal direction, the faster this transport goes.

For braking, it is necessary to move back slightly. At the same time, the sigve will begin to rapidly lose its speed, up to a complete stop. Turning is assisted by the steering column, which needs to be slightly moved to the desired direction.

Characteristics

As practice shows, the sigve is a light, compact transport capable of reaching speeds of about 20 km / h. The bulk of models is equipped with an electronic limiter. Therefore, exceeding the specified speed indicator in most cases is not possible.

The weight of the standard segway is not more than 45 kg. In this case, the device is able to withstand loads on the platform of more than 130 kg.

Due to the powerful electric motor, the sigve provides a smooth ride both on the asphalt surface and on the ground coverings. At one full charge of battery vehicle can travel about 40 km. However, having resorted to an individual configuration of the device, this limit can be significantly expanded.

Benefits

What are the advantages of a sigve? First of all:

  • Sufficiently high speed of movement;
  • Absolute noiselessness;
  • No need to refuel with fuel (only recharging the battery);
  • Ecological cleanliness;
  • Simple, intuitive operation;
  • Compactness (the dimensions of the standard sigvei are not more than the area occupied by the pedestrian while traveling along the street);
  • The ability to quickly move around the city, office, home, together with heavy goods, which are problematic to transport manually in the same conditions.

Finally

From year to year, sigvei are increasingly in demand among domestic consumers. Services in the entertainment sector offers whole city tours on such outlandish vehicles. Most often the sigvei can be seen in parks. Here, both individual and group walks become available to the users, the possibility of renting two-wheeled transport by the day, etc.
