What is membrane shoes?

Recently, the so-called membrane footwear has become very popular, which moms are happy to buy not only for children, but for themselves. What are its features, advantages and disadvantages?

First let's see what the membrane is. This is a very thin polymer film, a microporous material. Of course, the membrane is not the main material for shoes - it plays the role of only one layer in the complex "design" of boots and boots. As a rule, a film is fixed between the material of the lining and the material of the top, which guarantees the children's legs reliable protection from moisture and cold during operation.

Membrane shoes for children: advantages

Moisture does not penetrate the shoes with the membrane because the pores of this polymer film are smaller than water molecules several thousand times. On the other hand, its pores are several hundred times larger than molecules of water vapor, as a result of which the legs in such shoes "breathe". And it is these two properties that are responsible for the comfort of such winter footwear. After all, as is known, during physical exertion, the feet in the shoes first sweat, and then due to the accumulating moisture inside they freeze. Here, membrane shoes just help the moisture to come out in the form of water vapor. Additional comfort in this footwear is achieved due to high-quality material of the top and specially selected lining.

Membrane Shoes: disadvantages

It is not recommended to purchase such shoes for babies who still go for walks in a stroller or for inactive children. Otherwise, their legs will freeze. Boots and boots with a membrane are designed for the fact that the child will walk, play, run - in general, actively move.

Another disadvantage can be attributed to the fact that the footwear with a membrane is designed for a temperature of at least -10 degrees, so for our sometimes harsh Russian winter, the baby will have to buy another pair of boots or boots.

Membrane Shoes: Care Rules

If properly care for membrane footwear, then it can last a long time without losing its properties. So, in any case, do not dry the boots on the battery or near the heaters. Small dirt on the leather top of the product is brushed, dipped in warm water, and on the textile surface - a damp sponge. If the child has soiled the shoes very much, you can apply a baby soap. To improve the waterproof properties of footwear with a membrane, special water repellent impregnations are allowed .

Lining in membrane shoes can be made of mesh fabric, fleece or artificial fur. Approximately once a season, it needs to be cleaned, namely, in removing the spools from the surface. Then wipe the lining material with a damp cloth or cloth, soak excess moisture with a dry cloth and leave the shoes in a well-ventilated place until the final drying.

An important point is also what to wear under such shoes. Mom and grandmothers traditionally prefer cotton or wool socks. But under the membrane shoes, on the contrary, it is better to wear synthetic or special thermosets. The fact is that tissues of natural origin moisture absorb very well and, thus, will not allow it to evaporate. But synthetics just give moisture easily, which will allow the membrane to fulfill its "duties" perfectly.

Children's membrane shoes: popular brands

When choosing a membrane shoe, pay attention to the presence on labels such inscriptions as "Sympatex", "Gore-Tex" or "tec". Well, among the popular brands of waterproof and at the same time "breathing" children's boots and boots, you can distinguish the following: Ecco (Denmark), Ricosta (Germany), Viking (Norway), Bagira Kids, Superfit (Austria), Reima, Skandia, Kuoma (Finland) , Kotofey (Russia) and others.
