What is an analytical article? Example, analysis, types. How to write an analytical article

An analytical article is a text that contains an analysis of facts and conclusions concerning a particular topic. You can even say that this is a small study. If the information article gives a general understanding of some event, then the analytical opens up facts that were not previously known, makes a deeper analysis.

Main characteristics

A qualitative article of the journalistic genre will be considered if it meets the following characteristics.

  1. This topic is relevant at a certain point.
  2. A well-formulated thesis and clearly posed the question that is considered in the article.
  3. The material necessary for the disclosure of the topic is selected very thoroughly.
  4. The analysis of the material is profound, logically ideal, literate.
  5. Submission of material is consistent, subheadings are highlighted.
  6. Absence of unreasonable repetitions.
  7. The presence of logical inferences.
  8. Absence of stylistic, grammatical and logical errors.
  9. Achieving the goal - the article answers the question posed.
  10. The presence in the analysis of a fresh way of thinking.
  11. The form of the presentation is chosen correctly, it is readable for the target audience.

The first stage of the work: the study of the topic

In order to get an interesting and useful analytical article, the analysis of the material must be done very carefully. The most important thing is that you yourself understand the topic and can pass it to the target audience. We need to find as many sources of information as possible, to approach the issue from different sides. This approach will give the material more depth and interest.

If you have started writing a serious text of the journalistic genre, then this stage can take you a few days. If you feel that you are imbued with interest in the material and non-standard ideas on the issue are overwhelming your head, then you can already move on to the next stage.

The second stage of the work: the systematization of the material obtained

So, there is a huge amount of information before you, but it's still very early to start writing work. All that is now needs to be clearly structured. Re-read all the information received once again, distribute everything in terms of importance. Each piece of material has its value and place in the overall structure.

The information-analytical article should well disclose the topic, the text should smoothly flow from one subtitle to another. In the opposite case, it turns out just porridge, which will be very difficult to master the target audience.

The third stage of the work: determine the structure

When all available information is systematized, it is possible to begin to determine the structure of the future article. It depends on many factors. Including the number of proofs of the thesis, the topic itself and much more. In order to understand how an analytical article should look, an example of the "skeleton" of its structure is presented below.

An approximate text structure:

  1. The introduction, in which you must explain why your topic is relevant to date. In addition, it is here that it is important to formulate the question considered in your article.
  2. Main part. In this chapter, all the analytical material should be collected. Several points of view on the topic should be considered, your personal opinion expressed.
  3. The final part should be both informative and concise. To achieve this is not so easy. But, the most important thing is to convey all the conclusions drawn on the topic in this chapter. It is also necessary to evaluate the result of your research and tell you what was achieved, whether it was possible to reveal the topic.

After the structure is composed, it is already possible to begin writing the text itself. Clearly follow the plan - then the work will be easily perceived by the target audience. It is possible that in the process of writing you may have some more interesting ideas. It's not fearful - you can supplement your work with them.

Types of analytical article

This type of journalistic genre can be divided into several main categories.

  • General research article;

This group can include all publications, in the text of which an analysis of wide general issues is carried out. For example, one can talk about morality and economics, about the church and the state, about international relations. Analytical articles on politics also fall into this category. This type of publication is distinguished by the global thinking of the author. The main goal of the work is not just to disclose the topic, but to study the patterns, prospects and trends in the development of society.

  • Practical-analytical article;

This includes the disclosure of the problem of industry. It can be anything: culture, science, agriculture, business and finance. In such articles, attention is paid to the analysis of a specific event, a situation in a certain field of activity. The main task of the author in writing this type of text is to identify the reasons for the problem, to evaluate the effective ways of solving the problem on the example of practical problems.

  • Polemic article;

It is published in the event that a dispute arises on a particular issue in society. The reason for writing can serve, for example, the speech of political opponents. The purpose of the work is twofold. The author expresses his own opinion on the issue under consideration and suggests the most effective ways of solving the problem. The facts given in the work can only concern the point of view of the author himself. He can not afford to give an example that will contradict the thesis put forward.

Style of writing text

Analytical articles are made quite simply, if you decide on the style of writing. For example, if you have to write a work that will be published in a popular science magazine, then an easy syllable will do. The most important thing - rely on the target audience.

Newspapers and magazines just scream that they need bright, interesting headlines. Use of highly specialized terms is possible, but then decipher what you mean. Otherwise, the reader will simply put your work aside and find another article more understandable to him.

If analytical articles are made for a scientific journal, then this is a more serious work. Such texts are read only by specialists in their field. If you do not understand the topic, then do not even take on such work. The text should be compiled competently, contain terms on specialization and useful information. As for the title for this type of text, then it's not worth it to "scream". A man who takes up a scientific journal wants facts. Therefore, the title should clearly reflect the essence of the article, and the text should disclose the problem.

Amount of text

Another important issue is what analytical article should be in its scope. There are no specific recommendations on this matter. First write a job and do not count words and letters. Make a detailed, interesting text.

Then the author needs to stand in the reader's place. Ask yourself a question - would you read your article to the end? The text can be long, but exciting. In the event that you notice in the work some fragments from which the interest weakens, then you need to replace them, or completely remove them.

The volume of the written text, in fact, is not as important as the information that it carries. Work out subtitles and lists to make the information easier for the reader.

And do not forget about your own opinion - the journalistic genre involves arguments and reflections on the subject matter.

Helpful Tips

  • If you decide to take for writing an article of the journalistic genre, then take only the topic in which you understand, on which you have something to say. Personal opinion of the author is an obligatory part of the text.

  • Depending on where the article will be published, work with the title. For the target audience of the scientific journal - only facts, for newspapers - intrigue.
