Origin

This word itself has ancient Greek roots and in the original means "folded three times". This becomes obvious when looking at similar works of art. History

Since the heyday of the Gothic period (12-13 centuries), similar paintings and bas-reliefs have been adorned with cathedral walls, many of them have survived to this day. Also the very form of the triptych is typical for the stained glass windows of church windows.

Modernity

Now this form of works is not as common as it used to be. And yet, in our time, there are triptychs in the form of an element of decor, whose parts do not unite together, but simply hang around. Also you can find original coloring-paintings by numbers. Triptychs of this kind differ in that they consist of several parts, and the canvas indicates where and how to color it.
