Vladimir Yurzinov - the pride of our hockey

In the history of domestic hockey there are many athletes who left a mark in history. An example is Vladimir Yurzinov. A man who became a real legend for hockey fans all over the world. He was not only a gifted player, but also a great coach in the team.

Vladimir Yurzinov was born in Moscow near the Dynamo stadium on February 20, 1940. The district where the future legend of hockey lived was sporty. In the neighborhood with him lived members of the family of Nikolai Khlystov. And at school together with Vladimir Alexander Almetov studied. All the athletes came to the stadium "Pishchevik" and learned the basics of hockey with a puck, which at that time in our country has not enjoyed such great popularity as now. At an early age, namely at age 17, a young boy named Vladimir began his professional career for Dynamo. There was already playing his good friend Viktor Tikhonov. For the high successes, the then coach Arkady Chernyshov handed Yurzinov a captain's armband. Yurzinov's performances continued in Dynamo until 1972. After that, he decided to complete his professional career.

Career in the national team

Now many sports experts are puzzled why Vladimir Yurzinov was so rarely involved in the national team. But infrequent invitations, he took full advantage, becoming a two-time world champion. Olympic champion this illustrious hockey player did not. In 1964, before the departure to Innsbrug, Vladimir suffered an attack of appendicitis, and he was urgently replaced by Viktor Yakushev.

Beginning of coaching career

After leaving Dynamo Vladimir Yurzinov decided to go to Finland. There he was invited by Boris Kulagin. He needed a playing assistant coach at the club "Koo-Wei". Vladimir Yurzinov was ideally suited for this role. In addition to the club, this pair of coaches made their debut in the national team. But after two unsuccessful world championships, Kulagina replaced Tikhonov. He left Yurzinov as his assistant. In parallel with the team, Yurzinov was appointed head coach of Dynamo. He had to train players with whom he himself recently went on the ice. The management did not assess the merits of Vladimir Vladimirovich's activities and decided to send him to resign. Then Yurzinov went to Riga. From the team he also wanted to drive out, but a good friend Tikhonov defended his assistant. In Riga, the legend of Russian hockey managed to carry out the plan, and the team took the second place, losing in the final of CSKA. Prior to this, the team did not achieve such high results. After a successful season, Yurzinov was returned to the post of head coach of the club "Dynamo".

Yurzinov made a great contribution to the development of domestic hockey. Vladimir Yurzinov is an intellectual hockey player. It was thanks to this quality that he became a legendary coach.
