Vitaly Portnikov: the life of a Ukrainian journalist

Vitaly Portnikov is a well-known Ukrainian journalist and public figure. For many years of work, he was repeatedly awarded with honorary prizes and titles. In addition, Vitaly Portnikov's articles are published in the most respected publications of the country, and television programs with his participation gather a serious audience.

However, what do we know about the life of this journalist? Was his path difficult, to the heights of glory? And what does he do today?

Vitaly Portnikov: biography of young years

A future journalist was born in the heart of Ukraine, in the glorious city of Kiev. It happened on May 14, 1967. His parents were Edward Petrovich and Clara Abramovna. Father Vitaly worked as a director at a local tissue store, and his mother was a qualified lawyer.

Vitaly Portnikov started his education in Kiev school No. 53, but due to circumstances he soon moved to another educational institution under number 41. It was during school years that Victor realized that he wanted to link his life with the writer's craft.

Therefore, after completing the school in 1985, he decides to choose his education to match this dream. Alas, it did not work with the Kiev university, since at that time there was a special policy according to which Jews were simply not accepted.

Therefore, he goes to Dnepropetrovsk University, where he enters the philological faculty. After completing three courses, he successfully transferred to Moscow State University. There he receives a diploma of a journalist, and a ticket to adulthood.

The life path of Vitaly Portnikov

Vitaly Portnikov begins to build his career in his student years. So, in 1989 he already published his articles for the Moscow-based Nezavisimaya Gazeta. Around the same time, the young writer begins to cooperate with the publication "The Youth of Ukraine."

In 1990 Vitaly gets on the air of Radio Liberty. The station's journalist is in charge of the station's management, and soon he is already running a number of his own programs ("The Time of Visitors", "The Name of Own", "The Hour of the Press").

In 1994, Portnikov has the opportunity to print a column in the Mirror of the Week. He gladly agrees, but soon the newspaper was bought by Boris Berezovsky, and the journalist, by virtue of his convictions, decides to leave it.

In 2006, Vitaly Portnikov arranged to work in the weekly newspaper "Newspaper 24". Here he was entrusted with the post of chief editor, but she could not hold him for long. In October 2007, the writer leaves the editorial office.

And now, in 2009, he finally gets on the television channel TVi. Here he becomes the presenter of the program "The Truth of Vitaly Portnikov". A year later he was offered the place of the editor-in-chief, which he gladly accepts.

Life today

After the revolution began in November 2013 in Ukraine, Vitaly took the side of Euromaidan. Tough political position led to the fact that he secured strong support from the current government of the country.

And in July 2015 he was appointed one of the observers to the council of the National Public Television and Radio Company of Ukraine.
