"Vidrier's Licentiate". A brief summary of the novel by Cervantes

One of the little-known works of the famous author of Don Quixote is a short story dedicated to an inquisitive young man. His name was Vidrier's license. A brief outline of his story is set out in our article.

Unexpected meeting

One day two caballeros, making a long journey, met a peasant boy who surprised them with his reasoning. This character in the work of Cervantes has several names and titles. One of them is Vidrier's licentiate. A short summary of the novel can be started with this landmark meeting.

A new acquaintance claimed that he would soon glorify his entire lineage and do it solely with the help of his scholarship. The boy was very interested in the caballero, and they decided to take him with him as a servant.

Caballero service

Thomas Rodach, that is the name of the ambitious youth, was soon disguised in black clothes, because traditionally this garment was customarily worn by servants of wealthy gentlemen. The boy managed not only to serve hard, but also to get knowledge in the university. In his studies he showed incredible abilities, and rich masters after a few years began to see him as a friend, rather than a servant. Much later, he received the nickname of Vidrier's licentiate. The summary of his misadventures will give an idea of where this strange name came from.

When both the caballero and their faithful servant finished their studies, they did not part and for some time lived together. However, the inquisitive boy decided to return to the city where he was indulging in his favorite occupation, namely, studying at the university. Caballero not only treated this desire favorably, but even financially provided it.

Regiment

The works of Cervantes are filled with all sorts of digressions. No exception is the novel "Vidriere Licentiate". The summary of this story does not include author's reasoning, but only a description of the main events.

Thomas Rodaha again went to the city so beloved of his heart. However, the trouble is that on the way he met this time an extremely eloquent nobleman, who in all colors depicted him a romantic soldier's life, while not saying anything about the deadly danger that awaits everyone in the war. And the same night, Thomas and his new friend arrived in the regiment.

However, in a new place to the protagonist novels could not taste the charms of soldier romance. Here he became acquainted with the obstinacy of the captains, the machinations of quartermasters and the dishonest tricks of the treasurers.

Journey

Further, the author extensively describes the further adventures of the hero, which can be omitted by setting out a brief summary. Vidriere's licentiate, who is known for the time being under the name Thomas, decides to leave the regiment and travel to the cities of Italy. He visits Florence, Naples and Venice. But then again he returns to the comprehension of science.

Insidious courtesan

Finally, there is a tie in the work that the great Cervantes created. "Vidrier's Licentiate," the summary of which is the subject of this article, could also begin with the events described below. However, without the biography of the main character, it is difficult to understand the main idea of the novel.

Once the hero met a famous courtesan throughout Europe. She fell in love with an inquisitive young man, but he never wanted to visit her, because he was interested above all the book. And the insidious woman, in punishment for neglecting her person, poisoned Thomas, who by that time had already obtained the title of licentiate of law.

The effect of the potion that the courtesan had poured on the student was quite strange. The licentiate lost his mind. It should be said that his insanity was rather bizarre: it seemed to him that it was made of glass.

Madness

More than two years it did not leave the disease. Throughout this time, he walked around the city and voiced all that he thinks about the locals. His caustic arguments became very popular. And for the insane licenseary Vidriera (a name he imagined), a crowd of curious people constantly followed. At times he expressed such wise judgments that, if it were not for his amusing assurance that he was made of glass, he would be considered healthy.

Two years later a certain monk cured a licentiate. And here is the paradox: after the recovery the city public lost all interest to it. The last words that the hero uttered, he drew to a large city, which destroys talented and intelligent people, but makes his daughters beggars and the insane.

Deep knowledge was not useful to the licentiate of law. He had no choice but to go to Flanders and seek there instead of scientific glory military. The summary of the novel "Vidriere Licentiate" does not include important quotes and witty statements of the protagonist. The author's philosophical thought can be understood only by reading the novel completely.
