Full and partial oil change in power steering

For the proper operation of the steering wheel, the oil in the power steering must be regularly replaced . Then it will be easy to drive. And in order for it to remain elastic at high speed, a pressure modulator must be provided. Consider the cases when a replacement is necessary, and how to conduct it yourself.

The stages of maintenance of the hydraulic system

Thanks to the GUR, the driver is able to feel his steering wheel well. It is installed not only during assembly at the plant, but also during operation. After installation, it is necessary to look after it. Poor maintenance can lead to malfunctions. The driver needs:

  • To control the oil;
  • Eliminate emerging leaks;
  • Change the lubrication every two to three years;
  • To address in the service station at occurrence of extraneous noise or failures at movement.

The failure of the power steering may occur due to a rupture of the drive belt of the pump. Fluid leakage should be rectified immediately. Oil change in the hydraulic booster of a rudder is carried out in the following cases:

  • At long operation;
  • After installing or removing parts of the hydraulic system ;
  • When turbidity is detected in the tank.

Oil for power steering

Deciding to make a replacement, you need to choose a brand of lubricating fluid. A good choice will be the transmission oil Dexron 2 or 3. Lubricating fluid for power steering does not require the presence of special characteristics. With synthetics it will be possible to drive longer and save on fuel. The selection also depends on the brand of the car.

Oil in the power steering is selected when taking into account the temperature and viscosity values. It varies with a run from sixty thousand kilometers to one hundred and twenty thousand. Most often, a mineral-based lubricant is used. Synthetic is suitable only for certain cars. The color of the liquid is red, yellow and green. They can not be mixed with partial replacement, as well as add different oil bases.

If you change the VAZ oil, then a good option would be, for example, "Castrol ATF Dex 2 Multivehicle." In the tank will enter almost eight hundred milliliters of liquid. For comparison: more lubrication is required if an oil change is carried out in an average foreign car. "Ford Focus", for example, has a capacity of one and a half liters. This is the average flow of lubricant for hydraulics.

Required Tools

The oil change in the power steering can be partial and complete. For partial replacement, the following tools will be required:

  • Medical syringe;
  • A tube six millimeters in diameter, two hundred and fifty millimeters long;
  • A waste disposal tank;
  • Narrow-nosed pliers;
  • Fresh lubricant.

Partial replacement

The front of the car is lifted with a jack. To stop the leak, prepare rags. When the oil is replaced in the power steering, it is necessary to flush the tank with gasoline. Some owners of old cars have not changed lubrication for a long time, and in vain. For prevention purposes, this procedure can be fully implemented independently.

To reduce the load on the hydraulics put the stops. Then unscrew the tank cover and drain the liquid into the container until the mark on the filter. After that, the new oil is poured into the power steering. Surplus is removed using rags.

Turn on the engine and several times scroll the steering wheel in both directions. In the canister should remain almost one hundred grams of grease.

After carrying out such an operation, the hydraulic system must operate in normal mode.

Complete replacement

For a complete oil change, the car is driven to the lift. Unscrew the lid of the fluid reservoir. Then the engine is turned off and the air is removed by turning the rudder.

It is necessary to wait a little for the motor to cool before starting work. To carry out a complete replacement, no less than four liters of liquid will be needed to flush the system. Buying such a liquid, pay attention to the presence of marking PSF.

The tools for oil change are:

  • a tube;
  • syringe;
  • compressor;
  • crosshead screwdriver;
  • Pliers;
  • Drain tank.

First, using pliers, disconnect the clamps and remove the hose. Then remove the tank, and the outer end is lowered into a pre-prepared container. The hose is attached to the union and air is supplied. The motor must be switched off, otherwise the rotor and stator will deteriorate, which at that time are devoid of lubricating fluid.

The wheel is scrolled to the end without starting the motor. Then the tank is put in place, connect the hose and add the liquid to the maximum. The engine is turned on and the wheel is scrolled again. Leave the car for a quarter of an hour, then repeat the scrolling to force out the air completely.

In order to work independently, the motorist will need, as a rule, three to four hours. If there are signs of a need for a replacement, it is better not to hesitate with the procedure. Before starting to work, you need to study the information on the topic and do not forget to check the availability of all the necessary tools.
