Valerian is a herbaceous plant (perennial), reaching a height of up to 2 meters. Its folk names are - cat's grass, earthen incense, sore, maun and aromatic. Preparations made from the roots of this plant have a multifaceted effect on the human body, thanks to a whole complex of substances included in it. The main property of valerian is a decrease in the excitability of the nervous system. As a result of taking this medicinal plant, sleep improves, a feeling of tension passes, and irritability decreases. The soothing effect does not come immediately, but it has a stable character. The manifestation of therapeutic action occurs only with prolonged use, depending on the age and state of human health. In this regard, the dosage and amount of courses should be recommended by the attending physician.

The roots of valerian contain an essential oil, which consists of isovaleric acid and alkaloids, tannins and saponins. It also contains acetic, formic, malic, palmitic and stearic acids, as well as numerous micro- and macro elements. Due to its rich chemical composition, this medicinal plant serves as a raw material for the manufacture of a medicinal product.

It is necessary to adhere strictly to treatment courses, as long-term admission may impair the functions of the gastrointestinal tract. With the withdrawal of the drug, this pathology disappears.
