Characteristics of the river

Unzha is a river, which is the left tributary of the Volga. It's big enough. The length of the waterway is 426 km.

The beginning of Unzha takes in the place where the rivers Kema and Lundong merge, on the slope of the Northern Uvaly in the Vologda region (northern part of the East European Plain). It flows through the territory of the Kostroma region in the direction from the north to the south and flows into the Gorkovskoye reservoir (Unzhinsky Gulf), not far from the town of Yuryevets. Unzha belongs to the Volga river basin.

About 50 tributaries flow into the watercourse, the largest left ones are the Princes, Pegenga, Uzhuga, Mezha, Pumina; The biggest right - Hughes, Viga, Kunozh, Pong, Ney. The Unzha River (Kostroma Region) is the main water artery of the Makaryevsky and Kologrivsky Districts.

In translation from the Turkic "Unzha" means "sandy". And this completely corresponds to the bottom of the river. It is composed of sandy sediments. As a rule, the left bank is more suitable for recreation. There are often sandy beaches.

Along the whole course of the river is a country road, which has many nearby races. In addition to fishing Unzha is popular for alloys on inflatable boats and rafts.

Features

In the upper reaches of the source, Unge is wide. When the first large tributaries flow into the river (Kunozh and Viga), it expands even more, to 60 m. The bed is slightly sinuous. Throughout the course of the current, the water artery has a different nature of the coasts: the right one is steep and high, the main settlements are on this side, while the left one is low, sometimes swampy, covered with forest and shrub vegetation. Unzha is a flat river, sometimes there are ruts. In the lower reaches it extends to a maximum of 300 m. It was here that the Unzhinsky Bay was formed. The maximum depth of the river in the upper stream is about 4 m, in the lower - up to 9 m.

Flora and fauna

Vegetation of the coast is represented by spruce-fir raw forests, which are rich in berries and mushrooms, as well as representatives of large mammals such as bears, moose, lynx and wolves. In the lower reaches, where the banks are swampy, vegetation is represented by pine forests and floodplain meadows.

Like all the rivers in this region, Unzha is rich in representatives of the ichthyofauna. In the waters there are a lot of pike, bream, perch, pike perch, asp and roach. Unzha River is quite attractive for fishermen. You can fish here at any time of the year. The most common way of catching is from the shore. At the bottom there are shovels - the remains of the former timber-floating. Fishing places on the river are found along the whole course.

Earlier on the artery was carried out rafting, now stopped. Unzha in some places is navigable. In winter, it freezes, and in April it spills. In spring, the water level rises to 9 m.

Construction of the first bridge

The transition from one coast to another for a long time was carried out with the aid of a ferry and in winter an ice crossing. However, in the summer of 2016 it was planned to build the first bridge through Unzhu. This building will be located near the village of Garchuha. It is reported that the bridge will be able to withstand the car flow, and the maximum load weight is 40 tons. Its construction is extremely important for the local population, since this will greatly facilitate the transportation of goods. In addition, the erection of the bridge will help to increase the flow of tourists, the local authorities reported.
