Treatment of radiculitis medication: basic principles
Radiculitis is an inflammatory process that develops in the spinal roots and arises from their contraction. This disease can be a consequence of osteochondrosis, intervertebral hernia or deformities of the spine.
Radiculitis: medication
Pharmacological therapy is performed to remove inflammation, eliminate pain and swelling of surrounding tissues. In acute conditions, a strict bed rest is recommended. Also appoint:
- Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs;
- Anesthetics;
- Vitamins;
- Muscle relaxants;
- Ganglion blockers;
- Hormones;
- Dehydration means.
To be treated independently is not necessary, as only the qualified prescription of medicines taking into account the etiology is a pledge of recovery. Treatment of radiculitis: it is medically possible to reduce the intensity of clinical manifestations, but it should be remembered that, for example, long-term use of NSAIDs may adversely affect the state of the gastrointestinal tract. In addition, drugs from this group are not allowed to be used by patients who have concomitant cardiac pathologies.
Steroids and Novocain blockades in radiculitis therapy
Steroid drugs are a substitute for cortisol and effectively fight inflammation and pain. Among them, the most commonly prescribed drugs are "Hydrocortisone", "Dexamethasone", "Metipred", "Prednisolone" or "Kenalog". Despite the high effectiveness of these drugs, they should be prescribed with caution, as they are characterized by side effects in the form of face swelling, lesions of the stomach, weight gain and the development of osteoporosis. Treatment of radiculitis medically also includes the use of Novocaine blockades, which effectively relieve pain and involve the sequential administration of a solution of novocaine around the inflammation zones. The puncture sites are determined by MRI. In addition, point injections can be used in which a mixture of water, glucose and glycerin is injected into the muscles surrounding the pathological zone.
Local Therapy
When the treatment of radiculitis is medicated, necessarily use topical preparations. The most effective are, for example, ointment "Fastum-gel" or products that contain diclofenac. They are characterized by irritating effect on the affected areas, relieve edema and reveal a moderate analgesic effect. Reduces inflammation and reduces the pain of rubbing camphor or formic alcohol, as well as preparations based on snake or bee venom. In addition, applications with Dimexide are effective. You can use infusion "Alorm", which is recommended to rub in the pain areas. It should be noted that the treatment of radiculitis medication should be combined with hirudotherapy, mud therapy, physio- and magnetotherapy, as well as spinal traction or other techniques.
