Thriller "Everest": reviews of the movie climbers

Mountaineering is the lot of people who are courageous and at the same time risky. To deal with this extreme sport, you need not only excellent physical data, but also a special character. Each of the types of mountaineering is associated with the risk of injury or death. But among all its species the most dangerous and complex is considered high altitude climbing. Height of 8 thousand meters is a zone of death. Without special oxygen equipment is not in it.

In autumn 2015, the screens were released thriller "Everest", reviews about which viewers were in most cases positive. It is based on a terrible tragedy that occurred with the members of two teams who planned the conquest of the impregnable summit.

It is interesting to know what were the reviews about the film "Everest" from professional climbing climbers.

The film "Everest" - a hymn to the courage of climbers of the whole world

According to the plot of the drama, two commercial groups of tourists and climbers were at the foot of Everest at one time. In addition to them, several expeditions were located in the base camp. This created certain difficulties in the ascent - too many people were at the same time on the track. Team leaders decide to join forces and climb together, helping each other. But constant delays in the way, ill-prepared climbers lead to the fact that many climbers are on top after a critical time at 14:00. At three o'clock in the afternoon the weather began to deteriorate sharply, and the descent to the camp for late tourists turned into a struggle for survival.

Shooting pictures

"Everest" (reviews of the film and the cast can be seen below) have been planned for several years. In 2013, there was an indicative composition of the cast group. During this time, many performers managed to play in other films. So, Jake Gyllenhaal starred in three films: "Captive", "Enemy" and "Stringer". Jason Clarke also did not sit idly by and was noted in such films as "Planet of the Apes: Revolution", "Assault of the White House" and "Terminator: Genesis."

The plot of the picture is based not entirely on the book "In the thin air" written by one of the surviving participants of the ascent, by journalist John Kracauer. The creators of the film interviewed the survivors of that terrible tragedy of the ascent of Everest (reviews of the film can be read further). Based on their stories about those events and documentary evidence, and a drama script was created.

Filming took place in the Alps and Nepal. Actors had to work in very difficult conditions, as close to reality.

Actors and roles

"Everest" (thriller), reviews about which in most cases are positive, has a strong cast. Some critics just reproached the film - the performers played as powerfully as they could in a figurative sense involuntarily pull the blanket over themselves. Each of the heroes they have played has its own story and motives to reach the top, but the viewer can not sympathize with everyone at once.

The head of the New Zealand company Adventure Consultants Robert Hall was played by Jason Clarke.

Jake Gyllenhaal embodied on the screen the image of Scott Fisher, who led the Everest group "Mountain madness."

In the role of Anatoly Bukreev starred Icelandic actor Ingvar Eggert Sigurdsson. Also in the film involved Josh Brolin, Keira Knightley, Sam Worthington, Robin Wright.

The tragedy of 1996

In May of that year, 8 people died on the slopes of Mount Everest. Scott Fisher and Rob Hall - team leaders, three tourists and three Indian mountaineers from the border service.

The cause of the tragedy was the confluence of many factors: the ambitions of the leaders of groups who wanted to reach the summit, bad weather conditions, a large number of tourists who were simultaneously on the route and making it difficult for each other. Scott Fisher was in poor physical condition, but hid it. He did not have enough strength to descend, and he died of exhaustion and supercooling. Rob Hall and a tourist from his group died, like Fischer. Andy Harris, the Hall group guide, got to him with a supply of oxygen, but then disappeared. As expected, in a snowstorm he lost sight and fell into the abyss.

From the group of Scott Fisher survived by everyone except him. The Hall group lost four people along with the leader.

Anatoly Bukreev

One of the participants in the expedition to Everest (reviews of the film are mixed) was a Russian climber who conquered 11 mountain peaks over 8 thousand kilometers in height. He was the guide of Scott Fisher's group "Mountain madness".

The actions of Bukreev during the outbreak of the tragedy were assessed differently by witnesses of what happened. John Krakauer, a journalist and member of the second group, in his book indirectly accuses the Russian climber of rescuing only his clients and descending to the camp before anyone else. Bukreev himself in a year later his book of memories gave an explanation to his actions. He responded to Cracower's attacks that the expedition leader, Scott Fisher, had sent him to the camp, so that Bukreev would take the descending members of the group and warm them up. After the beginning of a snowstorm, he rose three times to the stragglers of his group in conditions of zero visibility. Three times risking his life, he was able to drag three dying climbers to the camp. After that, twice, despite the intensification of bad weather and fatigue, he tried to reach Scott Fisher. But they could not save the 40-year-old leader of the group. Bukreev got to him only the next morning, when it was already late.

Other witnesses of the tragedy noted that Kraquer himself and the other climbers who managed to return to the camp refused to go along with Anatoly to the aid of the rest of the tourists and calmly went to bed.

To save the lives of three people, the climber was awarded the American Alpine Club Award. According to Bukreev, the cause of the tragedy was the recklessness of both group leaders who, for high sums, took on an expedition of elderly and unprepared tourists.

Anatoly Bukreev died in a year and a half, hitting a snow avalanche in Nepal. He was 39 years old. In the movie "Everest", reviews of climbers about which were positive, the creators of the picture did not make Bukreev a negative character, although he was Russian. They honestly and impartially approached the presentation of the events of those years, although Anatoly's participation in saving people was still understated.

The terrible side of conquest of Everest - a beautiful fairy tale, turned into a nightmare

Many remember the words of Vysotsky's song from the beautiful Soviet film "The Height" - "If a friend was suddenly". It is considered that climbers are friendly people, stress-resistant and are always ready to help a friend on climbing. But on Mount Everest, philanthropy gives way to two more important desires: to conquer the summit at any cost and at the same time to survive.

The path to the top of the mountain in the literal sense of the word is strewn with the bodies of dead alpinists who failed. Nobody cares for them before. Those who rise to the top, can not spend their energy on the descent of the bodies of the dead. They themselves are at risk: the refusal of the oxygen cylinder, the treacherous crack, the hurricane wind - all this can be the cause of death. According to various estimates, there are from 150 to 200 dead bodies on the slopes of the mountain. There are many examples of when groups climbing to the top, indifferently passing by dying climbers, without even trying to help them with oxygen or warm clothing. Vain desire to be among the conquerors of Everest becomes stronger than humanity. But there are exceptions. A married couple from Britain, who had been preparing for climbing for many years, interrupted him, trying to help a dying mountaineer. For 8 years, they saved money to return to the mountains and bury the tourist, who did not have time to help.

How accurate is Everest following the original version of the events?

The creators of the painting have done a tremendous job trying to convey as accurately as possible the tragedy that happened in 1996. Positive feedback about the film "Everest" suggests that the audience appreciated their efforts. The picture is called atmospheric, allowing you to dive into what is happening on the screen and empathize with the characters.

The film "Everest" - reviews of climbers and those who personally knew the participants in the events

Most professional climbers have favorably treated the picture. They noted the reliability of the film in showing the tragedy. Both Hall and Fisher made many mistakes, confidently deciding that they would cope with everything. But the circumstances were stronger.

I liked the film and Ukrainian climbers, many of whom were on Mount Everest. They only noted that the actors did not quite correctly convey the behavior of a person in the state of oxygen starvation. But the alpinists were struck by the realism of the thriller - in the film, Rob Hall walks in shoes, which many of them used in those years. These small strokes give the picture a certainty.

Of course, professionals in rock climbing saw some errors made by the creators of the picture. But these are flaws, which are easy to forgive for those who are not familiar with the world of mountaineering.

Most of all professionals in rock climbing liked that the main character in the picture was exactly the top.

There were extremely negative reviews about Everest. Italian mountaineer Reinhold Messner criticized the picture, saying that she was filmed in a ski resort and the truth from the audience does not recognize it.

The film "Everest" - reviews of film critics

Most reviewers liked the picture with the authenticity, the painstaking work of the crew, the magnificent beauty of the visual line and the excellent performance of the actors. Many people are saying the film Oscar, although for the famous film prize, it is not anatrical. This picture is not about overcoming yourself, the way up, rather, vice versa. "Everest" shows the man's place in front of nature and reminds that the world around him is not a toy, and he should be treated with due respect.

Conclusion

Thriller "Everest" (reviews about the movie are in many ways contradictory), is deprived of the usual action blockbuster action. There are not a lot of special effects in it, without which today not a single film can do. This is an atmospheric film about courage and stupidity, ambition and desire to achieve the impossible. What else distinguishes this picture is the immersion effect. Watch it best in 3D and on the big screen. Reviews of the movie "Everest" and many reviews indicate that the picture was uniquely successful. Its creators have done a difficult and painstaking work to tell their vision of the tragedy that happened on the slopes of the most impregnable mountain peaks of the world.
