The InternetDomains

The upper level of the domain. List of first level domains

Domain names in recent years have become so tightly integrated into our lives that we perceive them just like a phone number or a mail box. With the help of this name you can go to the desired site and thus learn all the information we are interested in or take the desired action. This is the same chain with which you can find what we need. However, few people know how domains work and what they are.

What is a domain?

The domain is the transformation of the IP address of the server containing the resource that we are looking for by driving a domain name. In fact, in order not to remember the address like 192.193.0.0, and addresses of type domen.com were launched. With their help, you will agree, it's much easier and more convenient to use the Internet. On this many even managed to build a business, which consists in the sale of beautiful and easy-to-remember domain names. After all, with this name the clients remember the site easier, and in advertising such a name can be mentioned.

Hierarchy of Domains

Domain names are built on a hierarchy, divided into special levels of domains. There can be as many of them as possible, because the name administrator is able to create so-called subdomains on his own - lower domains of the poddomain.domen.ru type. The following subdomain will be of this type: poddomen.poddomen.domen.ru and so on. Thus, domains of the lowest level are formed.

When you mention the top-level domain name, it should be noted that this, roughly speaking, is its end. For example, there is the highest level of the domain, it is called the first. These are the zones .com, .net, .ru or .club, .travel and others. Ordinary users can only order registration in these zones, and only an organization that manages the domain names of ICANN is able to create its own zone.

Second level domains

The second-level domain is a name consisting of two words, separated by a dot. For example, this is the site domen.com or domen.travel. This name is the shortest (in the hierarchy), and therefore, the most prestigious.

As a rule, second-level domain names in all zones are paid. But of all the rules there are exceptions, including this one. Zones such as .tk, .ml, .cf and .ga can be registered for free. For example, everyone can take possession of the name domen.tk without making any registration fee (of course, if such a name is free). A free second-level domain differs from paid (for example, .com) in that there are much fewer spam and hacker websites that carry out online scams. This means that both search engines and users will still give preference to sites that have a paid second-level domain. Especially since the registration of the same .com is not so expensive - only 15-20 dollars. This amount is paid once for the whole year. Everyone who launches his site is able to find so much money. And it's worth it, because when registering such a name, the user will not worry that his free domain of the second level can close, "steal" and conduct other illegal actions. For the vast majority of Internet projects, this is extremely important.

The difference between domains of the same level

Probably, each user has repeatedly encountered sites in different domain zones. Themselves, frankly, several hundred. These are global domains like .com, .net, .info; Regional (assigned to a particular country) .us, .it, .fr; Also it is a set of thematic domains. Recently, by the way, they have become much more. These are zones such as .aero, .travel, .apple, .club and many others.

If we talk about the difference between all these zones, then first of all we should note the visual effect that the domain carries. "Yandex", for example, was initially located in .ru, after which he started his "mirrors" in all other global zones. This allows not only to protect the brand (after all, driving an address in any zone, the user gets to a single search portal), but also to make the site thematic, to separate it depending on the zone in which it is claimed. For example, the Ukrainian domain "Yandex" leads to the Ukrainian version of the site (yandex.ua); Belarusian - on yandex.by and so on.

Choosing the top level of the domain for your site, do not forget about the subject of the site. Accordingly, and choose a domain for it. For example, for a club address, the .club zone is fine, and for an airline address, the .aero zone is often used.

Why create subdomains?

So, the logical question arises: if the upper level of the domain is, roughly speaking, "good," then why do we need subdomains-names that are lower in the hierarchy? After all, it is logical that the names of sites like poddomen.domen.ru remembered worse.

Yes it is. Indeed, remembering such a name is an order of magnitude more difficult than simply domen.ru. However, this does not prevent individual projects from doing on subdomains. For example, for an online store that sells different categories of products, it is rather advisable to create the names kraska.magazin.ru, plitka.magazin.ru. Thus, the buyer will be easier to navigate, and the administrator - it is easier to separate those or other categories of goods.

In addition, the existence of subdomains makes life easier for webmasters who promote sites. So, in the case of increasing the number of links for one subdomain, part of this reference mass (which, by the way, the search engines are very fond of) is also transmitted to the main name. And this, obviously, is very profitable from the point of view of the costs of promotion.

Where can I find a cheap domain?

The question of where to find and register the top level of the domain is cheaper, arises in many webmasters. This is important primarily for those who intend to run several projects and for this reason, of course, wants to save on the total cost of domain names. This can be achieved only in two ways: registration with registrars offering lower prices, or wholesale registration. There are companies that register names at a lower cost.

As a rule, prices skip, which means that these lists are constantly updated. They are led by various bloggers and news domain-topics. Regarding registration in bulk, it is recommended to do this with proven, old companies that have been present on the market for at least ten years. So you get not only a favorable price, but also a guarantee that all domains will be, in simple terms, in reliable hands.

How is the domain configured?

Setting up a domain name is the final step that every webmaster who runs his site runs. To do this it is quite simple: you just need to specify NS-records of your hosting (as a rule, these are two servers that look like ns1.domen.com and ns2.domen.com). They should be entered in the panel of the recorder.

In addition, on the hosting side, it is also necessary to bind to the registered domain. This is done in the order management panel by simply registering the name. After that, you will need to wait from several hours to a couple of days for the records on the side of the administrator of the domain zone to be updated and the domain was visible in the visitor's browser.
