The stone of Davasco in the city of Tandil (Argentina) and its history

Today we want to tell about the amazing phenomenon - "falling" rocks and stones. This miracle of nature can be observed in different parts of the world, including in the nearby Transcaucasia. In the gorge, near the volcano (now extinct) Aragats, at the monastery Arich there is a rock, which, with the gusts of wind, swings from side to side.

Another similar miracle is in Colchis - the rock Quakantsaliya. This is a huge block, shaped like a cube. It has a huge weight - about eleven tons. It is worth touching it with your finger, as this machine comes into motion - swinging from side to side with an amplitude of a few centimeters, and you hear a slight knock.

The secret of such a phenomenon is quite simple - it's all about finding points of support, with respect to the center of gravity of the lump. But numerous popular beliefs surround such mountains and rocks with a halo of mystery.

In fact, this is a rather rare natural phenomenon, therefore it is not surprising that the people living in the vicinity of these rocks form legends about them and tell various mysterious stories.

The Dawasco Stone in Tandil

Probably, he is the "record" among the rocking stones in popularity and the number of tourists coming to look at him. This 270-ton block became the main attraction of the Argentine town. Look at it come thousands of tourists.

Its name was given to the stone of Davasco in honor of the legendary hero. The researchers can not propose more plausible theories of the origin of the name.

The Dawasco Stone is a huge boulder, which balances against its own fulcrum on the sheer edge of the rock.

Origin

As a rule, such boulders, like the stone of Davasco, are the result of the melting of glaciers. Piedra Movediza, which in Spanish means "moving stone", was first described by travelers from Europe in the XIX century. Ever since, it has become a bait for thousands of tourists who come to the town to witness the amazing miracle of nature.

There is a version that the name of the town of Tandil comes from two Araucanian words: tan (falling, moving) and ill (rock, stone).

Unexpected drop

February 29, 1912 in the city of Tandil something incredible happened. For unknown reasons, the stone of Davasco fell, tearing itself from its "hard" place. At the same time, it split into several parts.

Possible reasons

Scientists in this case did not come to a common opinion. Some believe that the cause of the incident could be explosive work in nearby mines. Provoke the fall, according to experts, could even, at first glance, harmless custom of the town's residents to prove to the guests that the stone really rocks (its movements were not visible to the naked eye). To prove this, they put glass bottles under the stone, which burst with his jiggles.

Some scientists have expressed a different, in our opinion, more plausible opinion. It is that in fact the stone never stood firmly in one place, and all the time moved under the force of gravity, like sliding down into the abyss. Such a slow motion could last for many thousands of years, until the stone reached a point where its balance was finally broken.

The Legend of the Mini

As already mentioned, the stone of Davasco (Argentina) is covered with many legends. We want to present the most interesting to you.

In ancient times, the leader of the Tandil tribe rudely violated the ancient custom. This caused a wave of anger of the townspeople and ended in an uprising of the people. It was headed by the beautiful wife of the leader - Mini. The uprising was brutally suppressed. The terrible leader ordered all the captured rebels to be taken to the mountain and tied to the largest stone. In addition, the unfortunate should be brutally tortured, and then leave on the rock to die.

When Mini died, there was a deafening roar in the mountains, through which the cruel leader heard the words of his wife executed by him: "This mountain will rock forever, reminding you of my beating heart." A beautiful legend, is not it? But it is not the only one existing.

The legend of the Moon and the Sun

The stone of Davasco knows another, no less interesting story. In distant and distant times, which people do not remember anymore, a married couple - the Sun and the Moon - lived not in heaven. The sun was very powerful. It could not only warm everything around itself, but also incinerate everything alive.

The embodiment of calm and wisdom was the Moon. To provide themselves a place for walking, they created our Earth, planted grasses, beautiful flowers and trees. But it was not long, and the couple got bored. Then they decided to create fun chirping birds, sea creatures, which you can watch for hours, a variety of animals.

Having dealt with all earthly affairs, the Sun and the Moon began to gather in the way back to heaven, but to look after their life on Earth they left their beloved child - Man. And they promised that the Sun would warm it by day, and the Moon would illuminate its path at night.

The person lived happily on the Earth, in peace with all the creatures inhabiting it, honoring his parents. One day he noticed that the sun had eclipsed something terrible. It was the flying Puma, who dared to attack the star. She tormented him with sharp, terrible claws. The man began to shoot at Puma from the bow, but the arrows could not hit her. In the end, one of them fell into the predator, and she fell to the ground.

Luna went up and began throwing huge stones at Puma, until she disappeared under the whole mountain. The last boulder hit the tip of the arrow, sticking out from under the stones, and stayed there forever. Ever since the sun rises, the huge Davasco stone begins to tremble. As the locals say, he trembles with fear of the Puma buried in the mountain.

The Legend of Davosco

If you believe another legend, which is very fond of the old-timers Tandila, the very first people settled in these places thanks to the beloved son of the Sun - Davasco. He brought here the first settlers, taught them cattle breeding and farming.

After a while the son of the Sun left people, but promised to return. To be remembered, Davasco left a huge stone on top of the mountain. He set it on the very edge of a steep rock, but the charms that he placed on the boulder prevented him from falling into the abyss.

Restoring a Relic

Ninety-five years after the stone fell (2007), city residents decided to restore the historical symbol. But they did not get out of the abyss and glue the original. In place of the "natural" boulder is its exact replica, made of plastic. It is much easier. Its weight is about nine tons, and it is firmly fixed on the rock. The "new" stone of Davasco, whose photo you can see in our article, is still attractive for tourists. Only he no longer swings from the gusts of the wind ... In the vicinity of the cliff is now a national park.

Excursions

Daily from Bueroz-Aires to Tandil during the daytime there is a regular bus. You can look at the stone of Davasco for eight dollars.

Boulders bending in the wind are in different parts of the earth. The stone of Davasco is not the only, but very bright example. A similar boulder is located on Fayal Island (Azores archipelago). In India, near the city of Hyderabad, there is a heap of huge blocks of gneiss and granite, some of which can be swung by hand.
