The relevance of the thesis. Example of a thesis, analysis

Every student knows: it's not enough just to find and process good material for a thesis. We still need to know how to arrange everything correctly. In this article I want to talk about what is the relevance of the thesis work, as well as give an example of writing a thesis.

Important points

Thesis work is the most important document that gives the student the right to receive a certain degree: bachelor, specialist, master. It is impossible to minimize the significance of at least one part of this scientific work. However, there are certain points in the thesis work, which must be treated with special attention. First of all, this is topical. It is worth mentioning that the Commission often reviews this item on defense, in order to determine how important this topic is at the moment and how it is in the key of modernity.

What it is?

So, what is the relevance of the thesis? First of all, it should be said that this is one of the important components of such a section as "introduction". Most often it is located at the very beginning. Some universities or departments also recommend that the title "relevance" be highlighted in bold type in order to pay special attention to this important moment. What is so important about this subsection? Here you need to indicate the need to study and consider this topic. That is, it is necessary to indicate how it is consonant with the realities of the present and that it is the development and study of this topic that can bring to the development of society, science.

And if the topic is not relevant?

All students know that the list of topics for writing graduate works is offered by the department. However, not always they are relevant at the moment. What to do in this situation? As you know, there are no desperate situations . In this case, you will need to write a thesis in the following scenario:

  1. It is necessary to highlight the most problematic issues concerning the topic.
  2. Next, we need to outline the range of discussion issues on the same topic.
  3. At this stage, you need to correctly include these questions in the topic of the thesis (you need to clarify whether it is possible to vary the theme of the thesis).

It is worth remembering that the relevance of the thesis must correspond to various social, political or social processes of our time, perhaps technical progress.

Small conclusions

To sum up all of the above, it is worthwhile to clarify that the relevance is something that makes it necessary to study a specific issue. It is worth remembering that the main sign of relevance is the availability of problems and the discussion of the topic under consideration. The reason for considering certain topics may be the fact that it has not been sufficiently studied and replicated in scientific works.

Design rules

How correctly to issue the urgency of the thesis? An example is the first assistant in this case. So, it is worth to say that there are several rules for the competent provision of relevance:

  1. Its size should not exceed one and a half pages of printed text. However, it should not be less than one page.
  2. In the text there should be certain phrases that perfectly illustrate the fact that this is the actuality of the thesis work. Example: "the relevance of the work is ...", "the relevance of the work is related to ...", "questions concerning ... are very relevant".
  3. An important point: the relevance of the work is the reason for justifying recommendations for improving work on this topic.

We must not forget that all the facts provided in the actuality should be presented briefly, concisely. The text should be logically aligned.

About the example

In order to understand everything, it is best to find and see an example of a thesis. It should be said that the example itself must also be competently selected. So, as a sample, it's best to take that diploma work, which was defended at the same department and was also rated "excellent". This is the only way to avoid copying errors into your work.

However, also do not forget that as an example, you can take only the structure of the work, simply looking through the form of presentation of the material. It must be remembered that the most important component of each scientific work is its uniqueness (this means that it will not be possible to copy or copy a piece of material into your work). Such a diploma is not enough that does not pass the test, so also its author often can not simply be allowed to retake.

About structure

What should the thesis work look like? A sample of it is best to take in your department, because the requirements for design are often different. However, it is worth mentioning that the structure of the work will be standard. It includes the following items:

  1. Title page (it should be issued according to the rules presented by the department).
  2. Contents (list of chapters of the thesis with the indication of pages).
  3. List of abbreviations (if any).
  4. Introduction (consists of many sub-items, which will be considered below).
  5. Survey-theoretical chapters (most often there are two).
  6. Empirical chapter (providing research or development on this topic).
  7. Conclusions (recommendations on further development of this topic can also be given here).
  8. List of used literature.
  9. Applications (if any).

About introduction

It is necessary to pay attention to such a point of thesis work as the introduction. After all, there should be provided the most important information about what will be considered in the work. So, which sub-items should you include?

  1. The relevance of the topic (as mentioned above, it is necessary to clarify why the thesis on the topic should be written (indicate your topic), how much it corresponds to the realities of our time).
  2. Objective.
  3. The tasks that need to be achieved through research.
  4. Object (phenomenon or process that generates a problem situation).
  5. The subject (this is what is in the framework of the research, it is the object that is the cause of the origin of a particular topic of research).
  6. Hypothesis (a hypothesis that is put at the beginning of the work.) In the course of the study, the hypothesis (s) is either confirmed, or refuted).
  7. Research methodology (here it is necessary to provide those methods, due to which the research of the thesis work will be carried out).

It is necessary to clarify: this list is not final, items can be added at the request of the department.

Evaluation

The next important point is the analysis of the thesis. So, to review and analyze it should at the very beginning the supervisor. At this stage, some changes and additions are possible. When the work is viewed by the commission, there is no way to add or change anything here. It is also worth mentioning why evaluation for a thesis can be reduced. It:

  1. Incorrect design (does not comply with GOST, requirements of the department).
  2. There are significant shortcomings in the review-theoretical chapters (erroneous presentation of the studies, absence of references to the most important sources on this topic, plagiarism, etc.).
  3. Disadvantages of the research chapter ("theft" of other people's results, the lack of correlation between the results obtained and similar studies, etc.).
  4. Ethical aspects, which relate mainly to the empirical section (the author revealed the anonymity of participants, the conclusions formulated can cause psychological damage to participants in the study, etc.).

Feedback

Another important point - a review for the thesis. So, first of all it is necessary to say that it is not necessary to confuse this concept with the term "review for a thesis." In fact, these are practically the same things (this is the opinion of a certain person about the student's thesis work). However, if the review is compiled by a specialist in the industry in question, the review is written by the supervisor himself.

Feedback Algorithm

It is also worthwhile to consider, according to which rules a review for the thesis work should be compiled. So, when writing such a document it is necessary to observe a special structure that will contain the following items:

  1. Determination of the relevance and problems of the thesis.
  2. A brief description of the content and structure of the work.
  3. Allocation of those moments that the student was especially successful in revealing.
  4. Determining the minuses and shortcomings in the thesis work.
  5. The recommendation, that is, the supervisor should expose the estimated grade for this work.
