The Nakhil Tower in Dubai is an unfulfilled dream of one kilometer in height

It's hard to imagine that not much time has passed since the most built-up city in the world was a waterless desert with a small fishing village. Currently, Dubai (United Arab Emirates) is the heart of the architectural life of the world. It is here that the most incredible buildings are erected on the whole planet and the most courageous creative imaginations of architects come to life.

A dream that has not become a reality

It was planned that the Nakhil Tower would be more than a kilometer in height, and to service more than 200 floors it would take about 150 elevators. The structure of the design of the four separate elements provides a special structural strength and allows the wind to flow freely through the air bridges. The total volume of concrete in the amount of 500 thousand cubic meters was planned to be used in the construction of this grandiose tower.

The Nakhil Tower (the photo of the modeled version is simply amazing) is provided with an incredible air conditioning system, the elements of which would be enough for installation in more than 14 thousand modern residential buildings. Or to service 14 luxury comfortable resort hotels, 2 thousand rooms each and an extended infrastructure. The Nakhil Tower has about 10,000 parking spaces at its disposal.

Vertical city in the center of Dubai

The project for the construction of the tower on the coast of Dubai provided for a 10-year period. The beginning of the construction was scheduled for 2010, and by 2020 the Nakhil Tower (Dubai) was to be ready in full. The tallest structure in the world would be a true vertical city within the center of Dubai.

In early 2009 it became known that due to the financial crisis the implementation is interrupted for at least one year. By the end of 2009 the construction project of the tower was ready, but the realization of the dream was still in great doubt.

Numerous adjustments to the construction project

Initially, the project "Nakhil Tower" was to be built under the name "Pinnacle" in the center of the artificially created palm island of Yumaire and reach a height of 750 meters. The tower was to consist of 120 floors and include exclusively luxurious suites, a large fitness center, restaurants and much more. Pinnacle is a 4 densely located semicircular towers, which were to be connected by special bridges to each other. But the idea was not destined to come true, and the project was moved to another place.

Later, another project was prepared, according to which the height of the tower was to reach 1600 meters and be twice as high as almost all skyscrapers in the vicinity of Dubai. From 2007 to 2008, the building was called for several months in the Tall Tower project documentation, while the large Nakhil real estate company was looking for a new place and did not want to associate itself with the final name. October 5, 2008 the official name was "Nakhil Tower".

Infrastructure and height of the tower

The complex (Nakhil tower and surrounding buildings) was to occupy the territory of more than 270 hectares and represent a whole area where about 55 thousand people can live. The additional space for office space was supposed to accommodate up to 45,000 people. 350 thousand square meters was planned to be put under shops and trading floors. In the upper floors of the tower was planned a chic hotel.

The tower of Nakhil, whose height was a commercial secret, according to information laid out in various sources, was to rush to about 1000-1200 meters. The projects of the final height were significantly different. In July 2007, Nakheel CEO Chris O'Donnell said that height is not the most important thing and the tower will not be higher than Burj Khalifa (828 meters). However, just a week later it was confirmed that the tower would be above one kilometer.

Financing of the grandiose project

The purpose of the construction was to create one of the most important tourist attractions in Dubai. The cost of the entire construction project was $ 38.12 billion. Investors wanted to recoup the spent capital, selling land around the skyscraper. To realize the first phase of construction, they expected to spend $ 1.36 billion.

The constructed lower levels could already generate income, and at that time the upper levels would continue to be built. In January 2009, the project was suspended due to financial problems. "Nakhil" negotiated with several potential contractors, including South Korean "Samsung", the Japanese corporation "Shimitsu" and Australian "Grocon".

One of the most original architectural projects

The Nakhil Tower is one of the most original designs of the century, proposed by Australian architect Woods Bagot. The basis of it was conceived to perform in a crescent shape, which would favorably emphasize the height of the structure. The tower is designed taking into account the introduction of the latest technologies with the use of the latest technical novelties, providing strength and absolute safety of the structure.

The Nakhil Tower was supposed to be not just an incredibly tall structure, but an example of a completely new construction concept. The project was developed with the participation of engineering talents from WSP Cantor Seinuk, and the largest organization "Nakhil" was to realize this grandiose idea.

Nakhil Tower, whose scale is difficult to imagine, was to become the main attraction of the huge administrative center in Dubai Nakheel Harbor. According to preliminary estimates, the tower could be visited by a record number of tourists - about one million people per year. At this time, unfortunately, the expensive project is suspended for an indefinite period.
