At the very beginning there is a bit of geography and dry facts. Kharkiv region was founded in 1932. Today it is home to about 2.8 million people (half - in the city of Kharkov). The region is located in the north-east of Ukraine and borders directly with the territory of the Russian Federation (with the Belgorod region).

If you ask an ordinary Ukrainian who can remember the sights of Kharkov and the Kharkiv region, he will most likely lose his hands in bewilderment. Indeed, what interesting can you find in an industrial, industrial region? But this thought is more than wrong.

Despite the fact that the Kharkiv region is the largest industrial, scientific and agricultural center of Ukraine, it also has a huge recreational and tourist potential. Sharovskiy Castle

Just an hour's drive from Kharkov is a large and incredibly beautiful manor of the sugar magnate Leopold Koenig. The palace in the village of Sharovka on the bank of the Merchik River "grew" in the early 19th century, and acquired its modern Gothic appearance at the end of the same century. Sharovskiy castle is surrounded by a park with terraces, ponds, stone bridges and a bizarre lime avenue, in which absolutely all branches of trees are directed vertically upwards.

Salt Lake

In the village of Antonovka in the Kegichevsky district there is, perhaps, the most unique landmark of the Kharkov region - Salt Lake. The name here fully corresponds to the point: the water in the lake is really salty! The reservoir was formed due to gas production. Once here they started drilling a deep well, but they came across a powerful salt lens. As a result of the gas explosion, all the technical equipment went underground, and on the site of the well a lake appeared - with salt water. Local residents are sure that it has no bottom.

Sights of the Water Kharkiv region

In Zmiyivsky district there is a tiny but very old village of Vodyanoye with a population of 300 people. Here is an Orthodox shrine - Boris and Gleb monastery with the same name temple, built in 1905. Within the walls of the church are two priceless relics: a miraculous icon of the Savior of the Holy Face of the 18th century and a renewing icon of the Kazan Mother of God of the XVII century.

The village of Vodyanoye will interest not only Orthodox pilgrims, but also archaeologists. On its outskirts, on the high bank of the Uda river, there is a Scythian fortification - a monument of the early Iron Age.

Dvurechany National Park

The area where Dvurechansky is located (the status of the national park was assigned to it in 2009) is considered one of the cleanest in the ecological plan in Ukraine. It is distinguished by special natural and climatic conditions and a peculiar relief. The highlight of the park is the beautiful chalk mountains, which stretch along the Oskol river belt.

Singing terraces

On the territory of a village that no longer exists today under the name Globovka there is another unique object - the so-called Singing Terrace. Who, when and why they built it - is still unknown. Mysteriousness of the object attracts attention of thousands of tourists to it every year.

Singing terraces are a structure of six brick walls built on the slope of a steep ravine. The arcuate design of these walls amplifies all sounds. A quiet whisper at one edge of the terrace is clearly audible on the opposite side at a distance of 60 meters.
