The lagoon is an amazing creation of nature. Features of the formation of new lagoons

The lagoon is an amazing work of art created by nature itself. It is difficult to convey in words all the ecstasy that you feel during a trip to one of such places. Sometimes it even seems that all the paradise landscapes were painted exactly in these parts. But how are the lagoons formed? What is behind this process? And where are the most picturesque lagoons of the planet?

The meaning of the word "lagoon"

The lagoon is called the shallow part of the sea or ocean, protected from the main body of water by a strip of land, an oblique or coral reef. A remarkable fact is that in the old days this word was only called the bay on which Venice is located. And only in the XX century this concept was extended to other parts of the world.

How do lagoons form?

Everything begins with the fact that the sea current raises from the bottom solid sedimentary rocks, such as sand, pebbles, particles of corals and so on. Then all this is carried by a stormy stream along the shore, until the force of the whirlpool begins to fade. Consequently, when the flow is completely weakened, all the raised tops of the "speck of dust" will again sink to the bottom. At this point, a small shaft is first formed, which later develops into an underwater bar that cuts off part of the sea from the main water.

The more time passes, the higher the embankment becomes. Eventually, a narrow sandy beach is formed, which is the border of the lagoon. Thanks to such barriers, these ponds often become unique biotopes that provide shelter for many species of fish, birds and even animals.
